What is Dysphagia?
Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder. If you have a swallowing disorder, you may have difficulty swallowing and may also have pain while swallowing. Some people may be completely unable to swallow or may have trouble swallowing liquids, foods and saliva. This makes it hard to eat. Often it can be challenging to take in enough calories and fluids for adequate nutrition and hydration. Medicines can assist some people, while others may require surgery. Swallowing treatment with a speech-language pathologist can the swallowing skills. It may be beneficial to change your diet or positioning the head or neck a certain way when eating.
