The other day. A Parent asked me how does an infant learn? You say that you teach an infant but that’s all you do is feed, Change diapers and hold them and love on them.
My response was “ Yes, you're absolutely right that much of what we do with infants involves the basic care needs—feeding, changing diapers, and offering affection. However, each of these actions contributes to the infant's learning in profound ways. You have to be intentional at all times. For example, during feeding, we’re not just nourishing their bodies, but also helping them to develop skills like hand-eye coordination and an understanding of rhythm and routine. When we hold and interact with them, it’s also fostering their emotional development, helping them to feel safe, secure, and loved—important foundations for later learning.
Beyond these essential care routines, we also focus on encouraging sensory and motor development. Talking, singing, or making eye contact with an infant helps them build language skills, even though they can’t speak yet. Engaging with them through play or simply allowing them to explore their environment also stimulates cognitive and physical growth. In all these ways, an infant is constantly learning, even in the early stages of life."
