Did you know that April is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month? The purpose of OT month is to celebrate the role of an occupational therapist and spread awareness about the distinct value of OT. This year Cypress Pediatric OT is celebrating by honoring and learning from one OT each week. This week we are excited to feature our amazing owner and occupational therapist, Rory. We have interviewed Mrs. Rory so we can learn more about herself and her profession. Please take some time to read what she shared, and please show her some extra love and appreciation! đ
â¨What is your favorite thing about occupational therapy?
My favorite thing about being a pediatric occupational therapist is helping kids gain confidence in themselves through play. Thereâs nothing better than seeing a child light up when they do something they didnât think they couldâwhether itâs writing their name, climbing to the top of a playground, or making a new friend. I love that I get to be a part of those little victories every day.
â¨Why did you choose to work with the pediatric population?
I chose to work with the pediatric population because Iâve always been drawn to the incredible potential kids have. I love how resilient, creative, and full of life they are. Working with children allows me to use play, imagination, and connection to help them grow. Itâs such a privilege to support not only the kids, but also their families, and to be a small part of their journey toward greater independence. I love hearing success stories from parents or receiving a video of a milestone a child reachedâthose moments remind me exactly why I do what I do.
â¨What is your favorite toy or piece of therapy equipment?
My favorite piece of therapy equipment is the Superwoman/Superman swingâit feels just like flying! I love showing the kids how it works, and they love it too! Itâs such a fun and engaging way to work on a variety of skills.
â¨What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis, traveling to new places, getting lost in a good book, and cheering on my daughters at their sports gamesâitâs one of my favorite roles outside of work!
â¨One fun fact!
On the weekends, I love working on home renovation projectsâwhether it's building shelves for a closet, creating a built-in bookcase, or planning my next big renovation project, our pantry!
â¨If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be?
Definitely Moana! She's adventurous, resilient, and determined. Moana doesn't back down from challenges, and she inspires others with her leadership and courage
