HAPPY OT MONTH ERICA!

This week we are featuring one of our amazing occupational therapists, Ms. Erica! Please take some time to read what she shared with us then help us wish her a happy OT Month by sending her some extra love and appreciation!

✨What is your favorite thing about occupational therapy?
My favorite thing about occupational therapy is that it is new every day. You learn every day. OT requires adapting to the situation and using your knowledge to make a plan.

✨Why did you choose to work with the pediatric population?
I chose pediatrics because children are so interesting they are continuously developing, learning, and growing. They are also really fun to work with!

✨What is your favorite toy or piece of therapy equipment?
My favorite piece of therapy equipment are the swings. There are so many ideas and treatment plans you can come up with. Also, children really enjoy activities with the swing.

✨What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to spend time with my family. We love going to the movie theater. I also enjoy experiencing something new in the city of Houston like parks, restaurants, and museums.

✨One fun fact!
I like Harry Potter and am a Formula 1 fan.

✨If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be?
Moana or Katara from Avatar: the Last Airbender

To continue our OT Month celebrations, we are featuring Mrs. Devin who shared with us a little bit about herself and why she loves being an occupational therapist. Please take some time to read what she shared and show her some extra love and appreciation 💕

✨What is your favorite thing about occupational therapy?
My favorite thing about OT is the holistic approach. We are able to work on so many important areas. I love that we get to help children and their families participate in activities and meet goals that are meaningful to them.

✨Why did you choose to work with the pediatric population?
I chose pediatrics because I am truly a big kid at heart and I love to play! Play is such a great tool to build rapport and help engage kids in therapy. I love that I can help kids achieve their goals while they are having fun. It is so rewarding when a parent tells me that OT is one of their child’s favorite parts of the week.

✨What is your favorite toy or piece of therapy equipment?
The platform swing! It is so versatile. It can be used with kids of all ages to meet a variety of needs. There are so many different activities that can be incorporated while using the platform swing so it is a great way to address a variety of skills while allowing a child’s sensory needs to be met.

✨What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time with my family, traveling, trying new foods, watching baseball, being outdoors, and playing with my dog.

✨One fun fact!
I trained my dog to compete in the 2024 AKC National Trick Dog Competition. He is under 2 years old and knows over 45 tricks!

✨If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be?
Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus because she gets to go on so many adventures. Her catch phrase “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy” perfectly describes how we embrace challenges in OT.

Did you know that April is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month? The purpose of OT month is to celebrate the role of an occupational therapist and spread awareness about the distinct value of OT. This year Cypress Pediatric OT is celebrating by honoring and learning from one OT each week. This week we are excited to feature our amazing owner and occupational therapist, Rory. We have interviewed Mrs. Rory so we can learn more about herself and her profession. Please take some time to read what she shared, and please show her some extra love and appreciation! 💗

✨What is your favorite thing about occupational therapy?
My favorite thing about being a pediatric occupational therapist is helping kids gain confidence in themselves through play. There’s nothing better than seeing a child light up when they do something they didn’t think they could—whether it’s writing their name, climbing to the top of a playground, or making a new friend. I love that I get to be a part of those little victories every day.

✨Why did you choose to work with the pediatric population?
I chose to work with the pediatric population because I’ve always been drawn to the incredible potential kids have. I love how resilient, creative, and full of life they are. Working with children allows me to use play, imagination, and connection to help them grow. It’s such a privilege to support not only the kids, but also their families, and to be a small part of their journey toward greater independence. I love hearing success stories from parents or receiving a video of a milestone a child reached—those moments remind me exactly why I do what I do.

✨What is your favorite toy or piece of therapy equipment?
My favorite piece of therapy equipment is the Superwoman/Superman swing—it feels just like flying! I love showing the kids how it works, and they love it too! It’s such a fun and engaging way to work on a variety of skills.

✨What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis, traveling to new places, getting lost in a good book, and cheering on my daughters at their sports games—it’s one of my favorite roles outside of work!

✨One fun fact!
On the weekends, I love working on home renovation projects—whether it's building shelves for a closet, creating a built-in bookcase, or planning my next big renovation project, our pantry!

✨If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be?
Definitely Moana! She's adventurous, resilient, and determined. Moana doesn't back down from challenges, and she inspires others with her leadership and courage

Our first sensory camp specially designed for our younger kiddos is officially underway!🌲

We had so much fun today bringing the great outdoors into our clinic! Campers had the opportunity to navigate an obstacle course and take a ”nature walk” to find leaves and twigs that we used to create our tree crafts. Our campers also had fun getting messy and searching for gems in our dirt sensory bin. We ended our day by enjoying some s’mores, telling stories, and building friendships!
