Spring is one of the busiest seasons for hand and wrist injuries. Whether you're back on the pickleball court, tackling yard work, or just moving faster than your body is ready for after a slower winter, the wrists tend to take the hit first.
Here are a few of the most common ones we see this time of year:

🌿 FOOSH injuries (Falling On an Outstretched Hand) — the #1 cause of wrist fractures. A stumble while hiking, cycling, or playing with the kids and your instinct is to catch yourself. The wrist pays for it.

🌿 Wrist sprains & ligament strains — often dismissed as "just a sprain," but an undiagnosed ligament injury can lead to long-term instability if left untreated.

🌿 Overuse injuries — repetitive gripping motions from gardening, tennis, or golf can aggravate tendons and lead to conditions like De Quervain's tenosynovitis or lateral epicondylitis.

How to protect yourself: → Warm up before activity — wrists included → Wear protective gear (yes, wrist guards are worth it) → If pain lingers more than a few days, get it evaluated. "Waiting it out" is where small problems become bigger ones.

Persistent wrist pain after a spring activity? Don't ignore it. Early evaluation leads to better outcomes.

Did you know the hand has 27 bones — and pro athletes risk breaking them every single game? 🏈⚾🏀

Finger and hand fractures are some of the most common sports injuries we see, and also some of the most misunderstood. That "jammed finger" that's still swollen two weeks later? It might be more serious than you think.

Dr. Korsh Jafarnia is Houston's hand, wrist & elbow specialist at Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Trusted by athletes and everyday patients across Texas.

The #1 Lesson for the Next Gen ⚾️ Longevity over velocity. At the 10th annual POLL Seminar, Dr. Jafarnia and the other professionals emphasized that protecting young arms starts with discipline, not just talent.

To keep athletes in the game for the long haul, they highlighted these essential safeguards:
▪️Watch Pitch Counts: Strictly monitor pitch counts to prevent fatigue.
▪️Listen to your Body: Never play through pain—rest is a requirement, not an option.
▪️Routine Matters: Prioritize dynamic warm-ups and dedicated cool-down stretches.
▪️Form is Foundation: Consistent, proper throwing mechanics are the best defense against injury.

Healthy habits today mean more innings tomorrow. 💯

From 5 broken pieces of the radius to 18 holes of golf in just 4 months. 🏌️‍♂️

Our team believes a successful surgery is only the first step—reassurance, professional care, and a commitment to therapy are what get patients back to doing what they love. We are so proud of this patient's dedication to their recovery!

The Full Testimony: “I was so fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Jafarnia for my broken wrist. Dr Jafarnia and Jennifer Ogle, his PA, are top notch professionals. The care I received from the first meeting until released was superior. Dr. Jafarnia's words gave me confidence I was in good hands for surgery. Reassurance on my visits with him and Jennifer helped boost my morale that I was going to get better. My commitment to occupational therapy was crucial for recovery. 5 broken pieces of my left radius in July, and I was able to hit golf balls at the range mid October. I then played 18 holes of golf mid November. I am so thankful to Dr. Jafarnia and his team.”
