When the symptoms were too great to ignore. My journey started in January of 2022. I had routine blood work done because I wasn’t feeling like myself. My A1C came back and was 6.8 and my blood sugar was in the 180’s. I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic, given Metformin and told to change...

Thank you!

Thank you for following me on this journey. This is such an important thing for me to accomplish this year and a huge feat at that. You all know from my post why I chose to do this. To many people are left to deal with the tremendous rising cost of insulin that are not insured as well as newly diagnosed. My goal is to reach as many people as I can and to raise as much as I can for Help a diabetic child. All money raised will be directly to go to helping a child or adolescent be able to afford their insulin. Awareness is something that should be foremost and is so important. I have realized on my journey alone that most people do not know the difference between Type 1, Type 2, LADA, and Gestational Diabetes. I was originally diagnosed in January of last year with Type 2 diabetes and an A1C of 6.8 eventually as the months passed I started to notice huge red flags. My water consumption was unbelievable, I was rapidly losing about 1/1.5 pounds a day and wasn’t feeling the best. Aly and I tested my blood sugars in July and they were 552. My new A1C was 12.7. I was given a low dose of long lasting insulin which didn’t help at all. Eventually I contacted a endocrinologist to get help. After blood work was done and I tested positive for the antibodies I was diagnosed in August of last year with LADA “ Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults”. I was misdiagnosed with type 2 even being on the downward spiral I was on until the proper blood work was done but Within a month I was on an insulin pump and CGM to monitor my Bloodsugars. LADA is a slower progressing form of Type 1 diabetes. Better known as Type 1.5. Some people stay in the stages of using minimal insulin for 10 plus years and some like myself are insulin dependent immediately. Eventually our immune system will attack all our insulin cells. Type 1 and LADA have no cures. LADA /Type 1 are a form of autoimmune diabetes. This means that the body’s own immune system attacks and kills the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Only about 5 % of people with Diabetes have LADA. If you are lucky your pancreas can produce insulin for quit some time before being insulin dependent. That is a little back story about my diagnosis and why I am doing what I am doing today. I’m glad you all are on this journey with me and I hope some will join me on these hikes and walks.
