Deb Mills Ambrosi's path into mental health advocacy began with love, courage, and an unexpected calling.

When Deb and her husband Mark adopted a high-risk, special-needs baby, everything shifted. She stepped away from her career to spend eight years homeschooling, advocating, and navigating her daughter’s complex needs, an experience that profoundly shaped her heart and purpose.

When she returned to work, Deb built something different. What began as a pivot into real estate became a mission: to serve people through life’s most stressful transitions with compassion and care.

In recent years, after devastating losses in her community, including multiple families losing sons to su***de, Deb turned grief into action. Through it all, she deepened her commitment to mental health and to supporting organizations making a difference.

In 2025, despite a challenging market, Deb and her team fulfilled a generous commitment to Mental Health America of Greater Houston, showing purpose in action.

We are proud to honor her as a Spirit of Hope Honoree at our Treasures of Texas Luncheon on May 15.

If you’d like to be part of this meaningful event, please join us. Individual tickets are available. https://mhahouston.org/events/tot/

As we close out LGBTQ+ Health Awareness Week, we recognize that mental health is deeply connected to safety, belonging, and access to affirming care. LGBTQ+ individuals experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, and su***de risk, not because of who they are, but because of stigma and barriers to support.

Everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and safe. This week and every week, we remain committed to advancing mental health equity and connecting our community to care that affirms every identity.

If you or someone you know is seeking mental health support, we are here to offer guidance, resources, and connections to affirming mental health services in our community. Call or text us at 281-215-9988.

We invite you to partner with us as a sponsor for the 2026 Treasures of Texas Luncheon on Friday, May 15. Co-chaired by Lisa Helfman and Deborah Grabein, our annual luncheon is an impactful gathering of community leaders, professionals, and advocates united in their commitment to advancing mental health care and support across Greater Houston.

You will hear from guest speaker . You may know Nora from her podcasts, including Thanks for Asking, and It's Going to Be OK, or her unforgettable TED Talk, “We Don’t Move On From Grief, We Move Forward With It.” She has a rare gift for talking about hard things in a way that makes people feel seen, understood — and somehow able to laugh, too.

We’re currently looking for sponsors and community partners who believe mental health matters. Sponsoring this event is a meaningful way to make an impact while joining us for lunch and an inspiring program. Follow the link to register today! https://mhahouston.org/events/tot/

Are you the parent of a child 8-17 years old with anxiety? Your child may be eligible for a research study at Baylor College of Medicine. Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine are studying how children and parents talk about emotions on a day-to-day basis and how this helps children cope with emotions such as anxiety. If you're interested, contact a member of the study team at REALStudy@bcm.edu or fill out the interest form at https://redcap.link/bcmrealstudy!

Where does advocacy start?
Not in policy spaces.
Not in meetings.
Not in fancy titles.
It starts when someone realizes their story is not just another story.
It is knowledge.
It is power.
Advocacy is not about being perfect.
It is about being willing.
If you have ever wondered whether your story matters, I hope you know this:
It already does.
And learning how to use it is what changes everything.

Join us on Tuesday 2/24 for a powerful training on how sharing your story can create meaningful impact.

This Black History Month, we honor the legacy of care, resilience, and community that has long supported mental well-being, often in the absence of accessible or equitable systems.
For generations, Black communities have created spaces of support through mutual aid, faith, family, and collective action. These acts of care were not only about survival, but about dignity, belonging, and healing.
Mental health has always lived in connection, compassion, and collective care, and that legacy continues to guide how we think about community well-being today.
