Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) is a trusted reproductive health care provider, unbiased sexual health educator, and a passionate advocate for access to essential and affordable health care for all people in the Gulf Coast region. PPGC is a two-state affiliate based in Houston, Texas, serving 49 counties in southeast Texas and the state of Louisiana. PPGC operates six health centers in the Houston area and two health centers in Louisiana, in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Every year, tens of thousands of people rely on PPGC for expert, compassionate care and information. PPGC has served Houston communities since 1936, and communities across Louisiana since 1984.

🚨Important Update🚨 A federal court has allowed the Trump administration's "defunding" of Planned Parenthood to take effect, blocking patients with Medicaid from accessing care in our health centers.

Texas has barred Planned Parenthood from the state's Medicaid program since 2021, but this ruling now means that PPGC can no longer accept Medicaid in our Louisiana health centers, effective immediately.

We know this is devastating for the many Louisianans who rely on Medicaid for affordable care and are now blocked from using their coverage at PPGC in our final weeks of operations. A North Texas woman was unable to terminate a pregnancy that a doctor told her had become nonviable. She endured four days of excruciating second-trimester labor to deliver her stillborn baby.

Two Texas women waited for hours to be treated for their pregnancy losses. They both died.

These are just some of the patients whose lives were permanently altered in the nearly four years since Texas implemented one of the country’s most strict and punitive abortion bans.

More than a year ago, The Dallas Morning News set out to explore how Texas’ overlapping abortion laws have altered the landscape of obstetric health care. For our series “Standard of Fear,” we talked to patients, doctors, researchers and families to tell their stories.
