The BCCP successfully co-hosted the first Advanced Breast Cancer Symposium on May 24, 2024. Our goals were to provide updates to oncologists and healthcare providers about emerging therapies and cutting-edge techniques, promote the translation of new biological findings and genomics into clinical practice, and enhance personalized, evidence-based care in clinics.

Congratulations to Dr. Chunru Lin, a member of BCCP, for being named Faculty Educator of the Quarter. This award recognizes outstanding members of MD Anderson’s workforce who demonstrate leadership in education and innovative practice. Alongside her dedication to researching the roles of lncRNAs in breast cancer, Dr. Lin is also committed to fostering a positive and collaborative environment for junior trainees and faculty to thrive in their careers.

Dr. Aysegul Sahin is an internationally recognized breast pathology expert and a professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She has published over 290 peer-reviewed manuscripts on breast pathology and multiple book chapters on the pathology of breast lesions. She is an executive committee member of the International Society of Breast Pathology and a member of national and international pathology societies. Her research focuses on identifying the morphological features of invasive and in-situ breast carcinoma, high-risk lesion biomarkers of breast cancer progression, and prognostic and predictive marker evaluation in breast cancer. The significant topic today is we would like to introduce Dr. Leng Han. He is the David Brown Chair Professor at the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science in Indiana University School of Medicine. He has pioneered a series of pan-cancer and interdisciplinary approaches aimed at identifying novel therapeutic targets for cancer patients. His groundbreaking research has received wide attention from the cancer research community, including being reviewed and published in top research journals such as Cancer Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, Cell Stem Cell, etc. As a dedicated member of BCCP, Dr. Han is committed to applying integrative bioinformatic analysis to dissect the fundamental questions in cancer biology and provide valuable therapeutic targets for downstream mechanistic studies.

Today we would like to introduce Dr. Li. Dr. Wenbo Li is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston McGovern Medical School. With a strong background in gene editing tools and cutting-edge genome sequencing technologies, Dr. Li has made significant contributions to understanding the functional importance of genomic regulatory elements and the 3D structure of the genome, as well as elucidating their dysregulation in breast cancer. As a BCCP member and a CPRIT scholar, Dr. Li is dedicated to applying his expertise to identify novel therapeutic targets for breast cancer and collaborating with breast cancer clinicians to translate his research into innovative therapeutic solutions.

The significant topic today is we would like to introduce Dr. Bora Lim. She is an Associate Professor and oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She also serves as the Director of Translational Research in the Breast Cancer Research Program at the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a member of the Breast Cancer Consortium Project (BCCP), she is dedicated to developing innovative therapeutic strategies for aggressive breast cancer. This commitment involves leading innovative biomarker-driven clinical trials and collaborating with cutting-edge labs that study lncRNA mechanisms in breast cancer and breast cancer evolution.
