Jump on your hog and join hundreds of other motorcyclists during CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare’s 21st annual Nun Run presented by Stellar Bank. A fundraiser for CHRISTUS School Clinics, the Nun Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 starting at Villa de Matel in Houston’s East End. The Blue Knights police-escorted motorcycle ride will end at Topwater Grill in San Leon, where participants will enjoy a finishing line party. On Saturday, CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic in partnership with the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston hosted their annual Back To School Clinic Day for Catholic school students. In addition to free sports physicals provided through the clinic, the event offered free vaccinations through CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics and free dental exams through UT Health Dental School. Forty children received dental screenings, 70 children received vaccinations, and 180 children received sports physicals. Thanks to our event volunteers including many of our local staff as well as volunteer physicians and associates from CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic in Tyler.

It is the barriers that stand in the way of getting care. 59-year-old Ramon* came to CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic with fatigue and shortness of breath. A simple check revealed low oxygen levels and a concerning heart murmur. “He urgently needed hospital evaluation, but getting there wasn’t simple,” said Elizabeth Ryan, Point of Light Clinic’s nurse practitioner. As of May 2025, a total of 1,024 confirmed measles cases were reported by 31 states. With the spread of measles, CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics is stepping in to ensure that area students are vaccinated against this virus and many more. Due to recent federal funding cuts, the Houston Health Department called and requested the Mobile Clinics help with vaccinating students in HISD’s West Division. In 2019, Gloria Ordonez came to the United States to be closer to her children and granddaughters, and through her daughter’s citizenship, was able to apply for residency. “As I began a period of personal integration into this society and country, I had the benefit of meeting Mexican, Venezuelan and Colombian women who have been angels on my path,” said Ordonez. “Through them, I learned about CHRISTUS Learning Center.” Click learn to read more about Gloria's journey to citizenship.

Sister Rosanne Popp, CHRISTUS St. Mary's Clinic's Medical Director, visited the Texas State Capitol last Wednesday as Doctor of the Day for the Legislature. Texas Academy of Family Physicians assist the nurse practitioner staff at the Capitol clinic when the Legislature is in session, and member physicians sign up to take turns.
