The CEO wasn’t weak.
He just didn’t see the pattern.

And by the time it was named…
it was already too late.

I’ve seen this happen in real time.

What looks like “personality” at the top…
can quietly reshape an entire company.

And the cost?

Culture.
Clarity.
Ex*****on.
Enterprise value.

This article breaks down exactly how it happens—and how to catch it early.

Even CEOs can be quietly overpowered inside their own leadership teams. When bullying dynamics go unchecked, culture fractures and leadership control erodes. This article shows how it happens, why leaders miss it, and how to stop it before it costs your role, your company, and your legacy.

Everyone’s involved… but no one owns it.

That’s where things start to break.

Not in the numbers.
In how responsibility gets passed… and blame follows.

I see this pattern everywhere—and it quietly impacts decisions, culture, and performance.

Most leaders think problems show up in the numbers. They don’t. They show up in how responsib...

You can learn a lot just by sitting in a room and watching.

Most people are listening to what’s said.
I’m paying attention to what’s actually happening.

This one’s interesting… 👇

Most M&A deals miss critical human risks. This article explains how leadership behavior—like founder overreach and team deference—reveals hidden operational risk that financial and legal diligence never catch.

You can feel when something’s off in a room. Most people ignore it.

I don’t. 😁

👉 Latest blog post and podcast episode is live now:

Most business problems aren’t strategy issues—they’re human pattern issues. Under pressure, leaders default to predictable reactions that impact decisions, culture, and outcomes. The observer—the one who can see the entire system—is the most valuable role in any organization. Awareness doe...

I just released an article on this very "human" topic. Humans are my favorite diligence. 😊

This article is about the reasons why leaders catastrophize during uncertainty — and how this overlooked human pattern quietly destabilizes organizations during mergers and acquisitions.

Afterall the only thing we are certain about is uncertainty.

Wouldn't you like to be ready for this? Human diligence matters in every single deal. Let's discuss..

Uncertainty makes leaders catastrophize—and in mergers and acquisitions that fear spreads through entire organizations. Learn why emotional regulation and human diligence are critical risk factors most deals ignore.

Two leaders can move at the same speed under pressure.

One protects enterprise value.
The other protects ego.

From the outside? Identical.
From the inside? Completely different.

This is the leadership mistake I see over and over again in mergers, integrations, and executive transitions.

And it’s expensive.

I just published a new article breaking down the difference between enterprise urgency and identity urgency — and why misdiagnosing it quietly erodes value.

If you lead, advise, or sit on a board… this lens matters.

Most mergers don’t fall apart on paper.

They fall apart in the room.

You know the meeting.

Everyone’s smiling.
The numbers look good.
But something feels… tight.

Tone shifts.
People hesitate.
Leadership energy changes.

That “wobble” doesn’t show up in due diligence — but it shows up in performance six months later.

I just released a new episode and companion article on the hidden human risk inside mergers and acquisitions — and how to stabilize it before it costs you.

If you’ve ever lived through a merger and felt that subtle shift, this will resonate.

Article linked here:

M&A deals miss hidden human risks. Power distortion, identity fragility, and containment capacity predict integration success. Unseen leadership instability drives turnover, delays, and margin erosion. Stabilize early to protect value.

Something shifted at work after the holidays.

Morale changed.
Leadership felt reactive.
No one explained why.

It probably didn’t start in January.

I wrote about what actually happens inside companies in December — and why February feels the aftershock.

Read here:

December leadership conflicts often create fractures that quietly destabilize companies by February. When arguments go unaddressed, psychological safety drops and dysfunction spreads. Learn how unresolved executive moments impact culture, morale, and M&A outcomes—and how to repair them before th

Most high-achieving executives I work with think they have a discipline problem.

They don't.

They have a coordination problem.

Here's what I mean:

You hire a trainer. They push you harder.

You hire a therapist. They dig into emotional work.

You hire a nutritionist. They optimize your meals.

All good moves, right?

Except your sleep is collapsing, your stress is spiking, and your energy is becoming wildly unpredictable.

Why?

Because **local optimization creates global dysfunction.**

Elite athletes figured this out years ago. They stopped hiring fragmented specialists and started building coordinated performance teams. One system. One strategy. Everything working together.

That's why their improvements compound instead of conflict.

Executives? We're still operating like we can optimize one area at a time and hope it all works out.

It doesn't.

Your body works as a system. Your life works as a system. Your support team must too.

When your fitness plan doesn't account for your sleep schedule…

When your stress management doesn't align with your recovery capacity…

When your productivity tools don't consider your energy patterns…

You're not underperforming because you lack discipline.

You're underperforming because your system is fighting itself.

The shift?

Stop hiring specialists to fix problems. Start building a coordinated performance system that prevents them.

That's how athletes perform predictably under pressure.

That's how executives can too.

Quick question: What's one area of your performance that feels like it's fighting against another right now? https://www.kathieowen.com/blog/why-executives-need-coordinated-performance-systems

🔎 Ever feel like you're missing life's memos? The secret isn't looking harder—it's letting go!

LAZY SCROLL? Just remember: Open hands catch more opportunities than clenched fists. Try loosening your grip on one area of life today. ✨

🌟 When I stopped white-knuckling my career path and embraced uncertainty, everything changed.

🧘‍♀️ The moment I released my grip on expectations, new clients and opportunities appeared—seemingly out of nowhere.

💭 Your biggest breakthroughs often hide behind surrender, not control.

📈 This approach transformed not just my wellness business, but how I navigate every challenge.

BONUS TIPS:

✅ Set a daily "letting go" reminder on your phone to release tension in your body and mind.

✅ Replace "I must have this outcome" with "I'm open to something even better."

✅ Document unexpected wins in a "Signs Journal" to build trust in the process.

Look back at this post again. Notice how the Ted Lasso references mirror exactly what you might be experiencing right now?

Drop a "TRUST" in the comments if you're ready to loosen your grip on something today, or save this post for when you need a reminder that control is overrated!

📍Life Lessons from my blind dog, Rusty 🐾💙

1️⃣ We don’t need to see the whole picture to move forward. Rusty doesn’t even realize he’s blind — he just wakes up ready for his walk, tail wagging, full of joy. That’s a huge lesson: even when life feels unclear, we can still take the next step with energy and trust.

2️⃣ Trust guidance. On his walks, Rusty leans on me to guide him. Around the house he bumps into things, but outside, he trusts me completely — and that’s how he gets his exercise and freedom.

And the best part? When I laugh, he thinks I’m laughing with him and starts wagging his tail even more. 🥹 That kind of trust and joy is contagious.

👉 Sometimes we don’t need to see the full path — we just need to keep moving, trust the guidance, and bring joy to the journey.
