Dr. Vlad Sandulache (left) and Dr. Erich Sturgis (right) attended the NRG Oncology Summer Meeting in Washington, D.C. last week.

Dr. Sandulache, who chairs NRG's Veterans Affairs and Military Treatment Facilities Subcommittee, focuses on active service members and veterans that have extensive carcinogen exposure.

Also, Dr. Sturgis marked the conclusion of his 12-year tenure as Vice Chair of the NRG Head and Neck Cancer Committee and Chair of the Head and Neck Surgery Subcommittee, which focuses on multi institutional trials and translational research aimed at curing head and neck cancer and restoring quality of life for patients.

We are thrilled to welcome Hannah Gbadebo, AuD to BCM's Department of Otolaryngology as our newest Audiologist! Dr. Gbadebo earned her Doctorate in Audiology from Lamar University, and she returns to Baylor after completing an audiology internship with us last year.
In her role, she will be conducting comprehensive hearing assessments, diagnosing auditory disorders, providing cochlear implant consultations, and collaborating closely with our Otology team to design and implement individualized treatment plans for our patients.
We’re excited for Dr. Gbadebo to bring her expertise and dedication to our patient care here at Baylor!

Dr. Tran Locke (pictured second on the left) was invited to be a panelist on the topic of ‘Pushing the Boundaries of In‑Office Rhinology Procedures’ at the American Rhinologic Society (ARS) Summer Sinus Symposium last week in San Diego, CA.
At the lecture, attendees had the chance to learn advanced anesthesia techniques for in‑office rhinology, explored the specific instrumentation needed for both simple and complex procedures, and gained exposure to hemostasis methods essential for safe and effective care.

Dr. Daniel C. Chelius, Jr., Associate Professor in the Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, was recently voted President Elect by the 13,000 member American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) and will serve as the 2026 Academy President. The AAO-HNS is the world’s largest organization of specialists who treat patients with diseases of the ears, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck.

Dr. Chelius is the fourth alumnus of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency training program (Class of 2010) to be elected to this esteemed position in the last fifteen years. Resident Alumni who previously served as President of the AAO-HNS include Drs. Bobby R. Alford in 1981, Ronald B. Kuppersmith in 2010, Gayle E. Woodson in 2015 and Douglas D. Backous in 2024.

Today marks the start of the 2025-2026 academic year for our BCM Otolaryngology Fellows. Dr. Kaitlyn Brooks continues into her second and final year of the Neurotology fellowship. We are also excited to welcome three new faces to the family! Dr. Cheryl Yu joins us as our inaugural Head and Neck fellow, and our two pediatric fellows at Texas Children's Hospital are Dr. Rebecca Lee and Dr. Elizabeth Shay. Looking forward to a fantastic year of inspiring and learning ahead!
