Drs. Gabrielle Hinton, Richard Nguyen, and the entire Eye Center of Houston team are excited to welcome the newest member of our eye care family — Dr. Rathanart Somphruek!
Rathanart Somphruek, O.D., earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with honors from the University of Houston before completing her Doctorate degree at the University of the Incarnate Word. Dr. Somphruek is a licensed glaucoma specialist with advanced training in the diagnosis and management of complex ocular conditions.
Dr. Somphruek completed externship rotations at the Eye Center of Texas, where she gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of ocular diseases. Her training included co-management of patients before and after refractive procedures, including cataract surgery and LASIK.
She also completed an externship at Lifetime Eye Care, where she developed advanced skills in fitting specialty contact lenses such as orthokeratology lenses, rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, and scleral lenses. During this time, Dr. Somphruek was actively involved in myopia control management, further expanding her expertise in providing customized vision care for patients of all ages.
Dr. Somphruek was drawn to optometry through her passion for helping patients protect and preserve their vision—one of the most vital aspects of everyday life. She believes that clear, healthy sight influences everything from learning and reading to forming meaningful connections with others. Her goal is to deliver excellent clinical care while also educating patients on the importance of preventative eye exams and long-term vision health.
