Shortly after attending the Volunteer Manager Leadership Program, a prep course for serving on non-profit boards in 2017, Ryan was introduced to Family Houston. He has been a Family Houston Young Professionals Board Member ever since! Ryan is always willing to help out, from taking photos at events to troubleshooting website issues, he is always ready to jump in. Ryan earned a degree in Finance from Texas Tech, and is currently working at First Horizon Bank in the middle-market Commercial and Industrial Lending Group.
“Family Houston’s mission is important because personal financial planning is one of the most essential skills necessary to lead a happy and fulfilling life, yet effective education reaches only a small percentage of the population.” Ryan, thank you for your continued support over the last 3 years!

We are continuing to highlight our dedicated young professional Board members this week. Our Vice-President, Jessica Cox has been an integral part of this organization. She has spent many hours coming up with event ideas, helping us recruit board members, and even writing the by-laws! Jessica works in legal marketing/business development and is currently a business development manager for Hunton Andrews Kurth. Jessica is also the 2020 Chair Elect for the Houston chapter of the Legal Marketing Association. Jessica says “I love the opportunity Family Houston has given me to become even more connected to the Houston community and I’m so proud of all the work they do to support families across our great city.” Thank you for all you do for your community, Jessica!

Young Professionals of Family Houston are a very important part of the Family Houston organization. They help bring awareness and fresh ideas, as well as raise funds for Family Houston. We want to highlight these dedicated young professional Board members. Without our President, Linda Madden, this program would not be up and running the way it is! She has dedicated countless hours and resources to Family Houston as President since 2017. Linda is a Senior Account Executive for a Houston-based PR firm, and specializes in executing media relations strategies and developing digital marketing campaigns to align corporate goals with integrated communication strategies. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Trinity University and MBA with a concentration in finance from Tulane University. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming and participating in triathlons. Thank you for all you do, Linda!

Samuel, a Family Houston client, is a combat veteran who served in the Iraq war. His family began facing financial struggles toward the end of 2019 when his wife became seriously ill and could no longer work, and soon after Samuel was laid off as a result of COVID-19 shutdowns. The family’s fragile financial situation became dire. They would not be able to afford their next mortgage payment, and Samuel reached out to Family Houston for help. Family Houston provided Samuel’s family with financial assistance to help with their mortgage payment. We linked him with other beneficial resources to help him through this difficult time. Family Houston condemns all racism, violence, and any acts of injustice. 116 years ago we were founded with a commitment to address the needs of all individuals from all ethnicities through our mission of creating a stronger community for tomorrow by helping individuals and families meet the challenges they face today. We promise to uphold that commitment to our community, clients, and staff. The needs of all the people in our nation are not being met, especially those in the black communities. Family Houston pledges to continue listening, learning, and working to understand the inequities that exist in our systems and to do our part to fill those gaps through our Case Management, Mental Health, and Financial Stability programs.
