Backpacks are cute… until they’re not.
If you have school aged children (typically ages 5 to 18), it’s important to make sure they’re using the right backpack and wearing it properly.
A backpack should never sit heavy on one side, and kids should avoid using just one strap. Uneven weight can place unnecessary stress on growing bodies.
When a backpack is too heavy or worn incorrectly, kids may lean forward, shrug one shoulder, or change how they walk to compensate. Over time, these small adjustments can contribute to muscle tension, postural changes, neck or back discomfort, and fatigue.
When I adjust kids, I look at how their spine, muscles, and nervous system are adapting to daily stressors like backpacks. A simple checkup can help support healthy posture, comfort, and movement as they grow.
Have you ever checked how much your child’s backpack actually weighs?
