The Gender Affirming Aftercare Group Condemns Executive Order Recognizing Only Two Genders

The Gender Affirming Aftercare Group, a dedicated organization providing comprehensive post-operative support for transgender and nonbinary individuals, strongly condemns the recent executive order by Donald Trump mandating federal recognition of only two genders: male and female. This directive erases the lived experiences of countless individuals and poses a direct threat to the rights and dignity of transgender and nonbinary communities.

"Our mission has always been to affirm, uplift, and support those who face discrimination and invalidation simply for being their authentic selves," said Shayla Anderson Edwards, founder of the Gender Affirming Aftercare Group. "This executive order undermines basic human rights, ignores medical and scientific understanding of gender, and puts countless lives at risk by legitimizing harmful rhetoric."

The Gender Affirming Aftercare Group stands in firm opposition to policies that deny the existence of diverse gender identities. By recognizing only two genders, this executive order not only disregards the fundamental human rights of transgender and nonbinary individuals but also fosters a hostile environment where discrimination and harm are emboldened.

As a provider of essential aftercare services—including medical referrals, mental health resources, and emotional support—the Gender Affirming Aftercare Group has seen firsthand the challenges faced by those navigating a world that too often seeks to invalidate their identities. Now, more than ever, it is vital to protect and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.

We call on policymakers, allies, and organizations to join us in opposing this harmful directive. The rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their gender identity, must be upheld. Together, we can build a society where everyone is seen, respected, and valued for who they are.

Honoring Our Loved Ones

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we come together to honor and reflect on the lives of our transgender and gender-diverse siblings who have been lost to violence and hatred. It is a day to acknowledge the pain and trauma that many in our community have faced, and to remember those who are no longer with us.

But today is also a moment to celebrate the resilience and strength of our community. Despite the challenges we face, the transgender and gender-diverse community continues to rise with courage, love, and unwavering determination. We are united by a shared commitment to justice, visibility, and the right to live authentically and without fear.

As we remember those we have lost, we also renew our collective responsibility to create spaces of care, support, and healing for those still with us. Let this day serve as a reminder that the fight for equality and respect is ongoing, and we must continue to uplift each other in solidarity and love.

In remembrance and hope for a brighter future,
Transgender and Gender-Diverse Community.

Gender Affirming Aftercare Group Responds to 2024 Election Results: A Call for Continued Advocacy and Solidarity

The 2024 election results have left many in the LGBTQ+ community feeling disheartened and alarmed, as we face a continued wave of legislative and political challenges aimed at undermining the rights, dignity, and safety of gender-diverse individuals. As Executive Director of the Gender Affirming Aftercare Group, I stand today in solidarity with every person whose rights and futures have been placed under threat by recent electoral outcomes.

While we had hoped that this election would reflect a greater commitment to equity and inclusion, the results signal an ongoing battle ahead. The rhetoric surrounding our community, particularly trans and gender non-conforming individuals, has only grown more hostile. Anti-trans legislation, restrictions on gender-affirming care, and efforts to erase our existence from public life are intensifying across the country. This is not just a political loss—it is a direct attack on the basic human rights and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people.

At Gender Affirming Aftercare Group, our mission is to ensure that gender-diverse individuals receive the care, support, and dignity they deserve, both in terms of medical transition and post-care services. But the fight for affirmation and equality extends beyond healthcare—it encompasses every part of life, from education to employment, and from public safety to personal autonomy.

The election results have underscored a critical need for continued, unwavering advocacy. We must remember that the results of this election do not determine the future of our community. The fight for justice and equality is not bound to the whims of any political cycle. It is a long-term, sustained effort that requires the engagement and resilience of every single one of us—community members, allies, and advocates alike.

As we process the outcomes of this election, let us recommit ourselves to the work that lies ahead. This is a time for unity and solidarity, for standing together in support of those whose lives are most directly affected by these regressive policies. Our focus must remain on safeguarding access to gender-affirming care, ensuring the rights of transgender and non-binary people in all areas of life, and demanding accountability from those who seek to undo the progress we have made.

I call on all allies to continue advocating for the protections of trans youth and adults alike. We must increase our efforts to engage in grassroots activism, to educate our communities, and to pressure lawmakers to uphold and expand the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people.

Now more than ever, it is clear that our work is not done. The outcome of this election only strengthens our resolve to fight for a future where every gender-diverse person is free to live authentically and without fear.

Let us rise above disappointment and channel our energy into meaningful action. The LGBTQ+ community will not be silenced. We will persist, we will resist, and we will continue to demand dignity for all.
