Hunter is 11 years old, and as well as a visual processing difficulty (Irlen Syndrome) he has Dyslexia. Since getting his first Irlen glasses (a cool blue!) a year ago his reading has progressed rapidly, indeed he was classed as a ‘non-reader’ before. No wonder he couldn’t read when the words weren’t stable!

Olivia is 11 years old and has a family history of Irlen Syndrome. Without her Irlen color her span of focus is small. This means when focusing in on objects or people’s faces only a small area is clear, the rest is blurry and moving. Similarly when looking at words she can’t see the ones she’s just read or the ones that are coming. This has an impact on reading comprehension. Olivia needs a blue color worn in Irlen glasses to help increase her span of focus, that’s all, no eye prescription!

Tabitha is a teacher and her Irlen glasses not only create more spacing between words, but allow her to judge distance between objects. That’s so helpful when navigating the environment or driving!

12 years ago my life purpose changed when I got awarded an MA in Dyslexia teaching and assessing. It had been quite arduous studying, and I had almost given up before finding out that I had Irlen Syndrome. My Irlen glasses kept the words clear and stopped them swirling on the computer. Imagine that the whole environment is a visual stressor that can lead to migraines! This is the situation for Tracy who originally just came to the Krist Samaritan Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) for help with distortions when reading. Not only was it found that her individual Irlen color alleviated blurry, grainy letters, but it stopped patterns in the environment moving which explained her migraines and depth perception issues.

My client has extreme light sensitivity, this has made it difficult to see anything in bright light (although she can read in the dark!) Her Irlen color not only helps her with reading in bright light but allows her to navigate the word better. We are also expecting a reduction in light induced seizures and migraines.
