We offer a wide variety of products, from interior safety to pool fences, and even controlling backyard mosquitos...WE GIVE YOU PEACE OF MIND Your child's safety is too important to rely on advice from a hardware store clerk, local handyman or a magazine article. When parents walk into a store, they might not understand what they really need; a lot of safety products are just impulse buys. When they get home, they often find that the product isn't right for them and then apathy sets in. We design complete solutions which can save you time, money and protect your children better, in the long run. Our experience helps you reduce the chance of accidents to your children by identifying potential hazards you might have never known existed.

A SAFE BABY is a happy baby.

Safe Kids Worldwide® is a nonprofit organization working to reduce unintentional injuries to children ages 0-14 and build equitable and sustained systems that support injury prevention. Most people are surprised to learn preventable injuries are the number one cause of death to children in the United States.

Safe Kids works with strategic partners and an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, sleep-related deaths, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. We achieve this work through a public health approach that includes research, interventions to educate and raise awareness, safety device distribution, and advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels. Safe Kids also supports a worldwide alliance of like-minded organizations in more than 20 countries.

Since 1987, when Safe Kids was co-founded by Dr. Marty Eichelberger and Herta Feely of the Children’s National Hospital with support from founding sponsor, Johnson & Johnson, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 61 percent.

Losing one child is one too many, and we don't want any parent to have to endure the loss of a child. We're calling on everyone to come together, to raise awareness, and to get involved so every child has the chance to grow up and do all the great things kids were meant to do.

This week is Child Passenger Safety Week during September Baby Safe Month. We will break this is into several discussions, trying to get to important information that we have not talked about so far in September.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of serious injury and death for children. Properly used car seats are the best defense. Car seats can reduce the risk of crash injuries overall and can reduce the risk of fatalities by as much as 71 percent. Help educate parents and caregivers on the importance of car seat safety each and every ride!

Tip of the Week
Always follow both the car seat manufacturer’s instructions and your vehicle owner’s manual’s guidance. Car seats are designed and tested to protect children best when they are used correctly, according to the instructions.

When looking for toys for your baby, pick machine washable stuffed toys. Remove any ribbons or strings. For other types of toys, opt for sturdy plastic that say nontoxic

For older babies, if looking at electric toys, look for UL-Approved with non-toxic labels, needing a tool to open battery compartment.

Immediately discard plastic bags or small packaging parts. No balloon is considered safe. If balloons are a must, opt for foil over latex.

DON"T DO THIS!

Toys that are labeled “Not Intended for Children Under 3”
Parts small enough to fit inside a toilet paper roll (choking hazards!)
Bean-like pellet stuffing
Toys containing water beads (we have talked about this danger several times in past)
Small marbles or bouncy balls (

Let us begin our lessons on SAFE TOYS

Before we get into the toys, lets discuss how to start this journey.

Recommendations for the young baby play time are that a baby be places on a clean, flat and firm surface, namely the floor. You need to get down to their level and check for small items like toy parts, or dog food, even coins. regularly check as the baby could at some point be scooting around on their belly. It happens fast!

Make sure Precious Baby Protectors as already been out to your house and put gates on stairs, blocked fireplace, and put all those tangled cords in a receptacle.
Make sure all batteries, magnets, hot drinks, pet food, toxic plants and medicines are out of reach.

Always supervise play time. If you need to leave for even a minute, place baby in his safe sleep spot.

Scout the area for anything sharp, or big and soft. Discard any bags, blankets, string, and straps in the area.

By now Precious Baby Protectors has baby proofed your home, and the furniture and tv's are anchored to the walls to prevent tip overs.

We will get into the purchasing the toys tomorrow. Don't forget that Precious Baby Protectors can be reached at 281-438-4670 to schedule your appointment for baby proofing.

Let’s take a break from safety instructions and education and show off this families new addition! Well, it is not a new bouncy baby but it is an addition of the baby’s playroom!

The reason why it is such a big deal is that Mom and Dad were going to add a room to their home. A friend of theirs mentioned to call Precious Baby Protectors at 281-438-4670 to see if we had any ideas.

So, presented to you is the new playroom. We created a build out to keep the baby in the playroom. As the opening is larger than our biggest gate, we needed to construct a frame and structure. The white blends in with the home and the adorable rug says it is play time!

What can we do for you? We can design a safe home for the baby and the whole family. Call us at 281-438-4670 to schedule your install.

Car Seat Safety continued (day 2)

BUCKLING FOR SAFETY

Dress your baby in thin layers. Bulky coats can prevent the harness from adjusting snugly, making it less able to protect your child in a crash. Always be certain that your child is fully buckled whenever using the car seat. Use the pinch test: straps should be snug enough that you can’t pinch extra strap webbing at the shoulder.
Place the chest clip on rear-facing and forward-facing car seats at the child’s armpit level.

Add a blanket over the car seat after your child is properly secured.

Only use the car seat for travel. Too much time in a car seat can have negative effects on health. If the baby falls asleep in the car seat, move him to his safe sleep space.

Car seats expire. Check the label or instructions for the expiration date. Register your car seat so you’ll be notified if there’s a safety recall. Buy from a trusted store or brand. Ensure your car seat meets safety standards. In the U.S., a label must state, “This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards. "Car seats labeled with, “The restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft” may be used for airplane travel. In Canada, there must be a National Safety Mark on + the seat itself. For additional assurance, car seats Verified by the Baby Safety Alliance meet the highest government and voluntary standards for safety, performance, and quality. your child does not fit within the weight and height limits it is second-hand, unless you know it has never been in a crash, is not expired, has all its parts, and all parts function correctly. it was in a crash. Check instructions for replacement. If it doesn’t have all labels, including one
with the manufacturer name, model number, and date of manufacture.

SAFETY ON THE ROAD
Never leave the child in the car alone!

We all are now aware of the many children that are left in the car, possibly innocently, resulting in babies' death or other life-threatening injuries. Summer heat is brutal, and the heat can build up to much higher temps than the outside temperature.

Place reminders on your front seat that will jog your memory to check the back seat. Get in the habit to always look at back seat. Inform daycares or care givers to call if your child doesn't show up.

Upon exiting car, lock the doors so a child can't return to the car and get trapped. Hide your keys so kids can't play with them or give them to an older sibling who will try to enter the car.

Teach your children that cars are not a place to play in!

If you see a child left in a hot car, alone call 911

STOP...LOOK...LOCK when exiting your car!

The next subject is safe places and safe toys....

So today is Grandparents Day! Happy day to you. I promised to start talking about car seats for yesterday, but it was my birthday, and I wanted to go out. So today is the day we start with part 1.

CAR SEAT SAFETY
Pick the rear-facing car seat that fits your child, your car and is easy for you to install and use every ride

INFANT SEAT
Conveniently portable
Stroller-compatible (may need adapters)
Most have a base that stays installed in
the car

CONVERTABLE SEAT or ALL IN ONE
Stays in the car
Allows for longer time in rear-facing position as baby grows
Can continue to be used when baby is ready for forward-facing
Keep your child rear-facing until they reach the car seat’s height or weight limit.
Rear-facing seats provide protection by supporting your child’s
head, neck and back

CAR SEAT INSTALLATION
Follow BOTH the car seat manual and vehicle manual. Use either the seat belt OR lower anchors for installation. Only use both if stated in your car seat manual.

A properly installed car seat moves less than 1 inch from side to side or toward the front when pulled with moderate force at the belt path. Never install a rear-facing car seat in front of an active air bag. Check both car seat and vehicle manuals for safe seating positions.

Any child under 13 years old is safer in a rear seat.

Safety Technician (CPST) can check for recalls, correct installation, proper
car seat use, and more. Mant times there will be safety checks around your area. It never hurts to have seat checked.

SAFE SLEEP ATIRE

Put your baby to bed in up to one additional layer that you yourself are wearing.
If you decide to swaddle, it should fit snugly at chest, loose on hips. When baby starts to roll, stop swaddling.

AVOID
Weighted swaddles or weighted sleep sacks
Hats (unsafe for sleep or indoor use)
Loose or bulky clothes
Over-bundling
Drawstrings or hoods
Heart/oxygen monitors*

There’s no evidence that these reduce the risk of
SIDS, suffocation or strangulation and therefore
are not recommended.

Make sure especially if baby is sharing room with parents that there is no smoking/ or drugs in the room. Avoid feeding on couches and recliners if there’s a chance, you’ll fall asleep. Instead, feed while sitting on the floor or clear a temporary safe feeding space in your bed, free of soft items and pets. Set an alarm to avoid dozing off while feeding your baby.

Return your baby to their crib or bassinet
after feeding.

Swings, rockers, bouncers, car seats, and strollers are trusted gear for playtime and travel—but not safe for sleep. Their inclined or tilted position can cause your baby’s head to fall forward and block their airway. If baby does fall asleep in one
of these trusted items while playing or traveling, please move them to a safe sleep space as soon as possible.

This is the end of safe sleep education. Tomorrow we will start safety with car seat education.

Part of Baby Safety Month is discussing SAFE SLEEP. I will start discussing that tonight and tomorrow possibly the rest.

So approximately 3700 babies die in the US during their sleep. Many of the reasons include suffocation, strangulation, and SIDS, sudden infant death.

Always following safe sleep methods. Place baby alone in a crib, bassinet or play yard. Play yards are banned for sleep in Canada, and I don't think it is a safe place. It is called a play pen, and that it what it should be used for. The crib or bassinet should be registered as JPMA, or the new organization name BABY SAFE ALLIANCE.

The baby should be placed on their back. Research shows that this is safer as baby is breathing fresh air. Also, this position has been found to have less spit up. The baby should not be left on an incline. The infant can have a pacifier, as long as there are no strings attached.

The mattress should be tight fitting in the crib, maybe 2 finger worth of room. The sheets should fit tightly around mattress. The mattress should also be a certified JPMA or SBA. That mattress should be firm and flat.

Years back we loved the bumpers around the crib, but that is a bad idea. Babies can get trapped in them. The crib should be empty, and nothing hanging with the exception of a mobile (until they sit up).

Co sleeping is not recognized as a safe option. If you want baby in the room, keep the crib an arm's length away. The placement to sleep should be away from windows, and no cords around.

This is your lesson for tonight. Please share with other new moms, and expectant moms.
