Did you know that the majority of calories burned comes from baseline RMR, basic bodily functions and the thermogenic effects of food?

RMR is defined by the number of calories burned in a 24-hour period while the body is at rest and while your metabolism regulates itself to meet your body needs eating less than what your body requires can actually hinder your metabolic health and consequently your fitness goals.

With a simple non-invasive breathing test you can determine how many calories you need to consume throughout the day to achieve your health goals.

Do you think your body only burns calories during a workout?

Newsflash! You are constantly burning calories, whether you are sitting on the couch or panting in a spin class. For some, keeping track of calories consumed and calories burned can be a helpful way to keep energy expenditure in balance to reach a body composition goal (however, it is not the only way).

Regardless, there is a way to burn a few extra calories each day through some surprising and easy ways that don’t require hours in the gym. Hop over to our blog to learn more about them.

We often hear people blame weight struggles on metabolic problems, but what does it mean to have a fast metabolism?

It means that you require more energy (in the form of calories) to meet your basic body needs.

So what is metabolism really?Basically, metabolism is the biochemical process that goes on in your body that converts what you eat and drink into energy to keep you alive. In other words it is a complex process that combines calories and oxygen to create and release energy to fuel bodily functions.

Because of that, even at rest we still have a minimum amount of required calories, known as your resting metabolic rate, and since many factors like s*x, age, height, lean mass, physical activity and genetics impact your metabolism that number will vary from person to person.

Make sure your caloric requirements are in check and schedule your RMR test today by clicking the link in our bio.

A couple days ago we mentioned a few tips on how to cook from home more often but do you know what the benefits of implementing this change are?

Like we mentioned before it helps you stay within budget, in the long run cooking from home with a planned menu and list helps you save money since you’re eating out less often and reduces the amount of food wasted which also means less money wasted.

It also helps you to rely less on highly processed foods because of convenience and for being the only option available at the time. When cooking at home you are more mindful of what you put in your body and can make sure you’re making healthier choices (since you can control not only the ingredients but also the amount), for example, when you cook your own meal you can not only control the type of fat/oil use but also the quantity.

Which leads us to our next point, portion sizes. Often restaurants serve larger portion sizes which can subsequently lead us to eating more than we actually need to satisfy our hunger.

Cooking from home more frequently also gives you the opportunity to learn a new skill., even if it’s just time management!

It’s week 4 and this week's key message is to create tasty foods from home so you can ensure that you’re making healthy choices.

Here’s how to start cooking from home more often:

1. Find easy recipes of meals you enjoy and that incorporate new ingredients to try.

2. Get your family involved and let them pick a few recipes too.

3. Start scheduling 1-2 meals per week that would be the easiest to prepare.
