Dr. Catherine Bammert named Faculty Educator of the Quarter!

This award recognizes outstanding members of MD Anderson’s workforce who demonstrate dedication, originality and enthusiasm for education and innovative practice.

Dr. Bammert is an associate professor and program director of the Cytotechnology program in the School of Health Professions (SHP), where she is pioneering initiatives to usher in the next era of cytology education and elevate the profession to new heights.

Graduates in the Cytotechnology program have a 100% job placement rate. Alumni across Texas and the United States play a vital role in cancer care, detecting disease and providing critical insights that inform treatment decisions and enhance patient outcomes.

In Fall 2026, SHP will become the first school in Texas to offer a Master of Science in Diagnostic Cytology. The program will feature an entry-level track for students with a bachelor’s degree and provide graduates of the school’s Laboratory Science Programs with a streamlined pathway to a master’s degree. As the first program in the nation designed to create hybrid, multi-credentialed practitioners with advanced diagnostic expertise, it will help fill critical interdisciplinary clinical vacancies, offering laboratories unprecedented flexibility in staffing and scheduling while enhancing integrated patient care.
