I was listening to Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens earlier today. I have always found it to be a wonderfully spiritual yet not very religious song. It came to the line about "God's recreation of the new day" and I was prepared for it to be pronounced "re-creation" as in creating again. Instead I heard the pronunciation that I have always associated with games, sport or relaxation. It could easily be a disagreement between the yanks and the brits about how to pronounce the word, but I found myself pondering just what "God's recreation" using the relaxation meaning. It is always fascinating (for me anyway) how subtle differences in words we use can make a big difference in the meaning that we hear (or read). Have fun.
