We are not in our darkest times in what is now called the United States, but we are incredibly horrific times in our generation and on our soil.

Renee Nicole Good should still be here.

The 32 people who died in ICE custody in 2025 should also still be here.

And the 241 people between ICE’s formation and 2024.

Being a virtual yoga studio that endeavors to create one large inclusive, loving community no matter where you are, means that we have people in Minneapolis right now that are scared, hurting, and numb from this week’s murder by a federal agent. We have people, right now who are struggling because of harm created at every level and system right now.

We will always talk about that. We are here with and for you.

Many of our teachers preserve their peace by not engaging with news until after we teach, so some of us find things out later than you. If you’re ever in a class struggling with something, please let us know. We are in our work to have capacity to hold space for you.

We invite you into community tomorrow for free group meditation as we cultivate peace, contemplation, and connection together.

Please join us.

One of our favorite ways to gather is via retreat. Meet up in Peru this summer!

In Peru, one has the unique opportunity to touch the sacred, get a visual into the pre-Columbian world, and experience major shifts in perspective and awareness. This retreat is designed for the person who wants to have that type of experience in a truly magical place with an incredible group of yog...

If we pay attention to nature, animals aren’t doing new things — they’re foraging from what they’ve already done. Consider that you’ve done enough this year and do the absolute mimimim.

But what does yoga’s sister science have to say about adapting to the season?

Let’s check in with in-studio flow queen and self-proclaimed “Ayurveda nerd,” Ashley Rideaux:

“While the world outside turns cold, dry, and dramatic, the body’s inner fire (agni) is secretly thriving, like a cozy fireplace begging to be fed. This means winter is the perfect time to eat warm, nourishing foods. So, consider setting aside your açai bowls and smoothies and leaning into soups, stews, cooked grains, milk, nuts, gently spiced foods and generous amounts of ghee (or coconut oil if you’re like me and not on the butter wagon).

Winter also loves to stir up Vata dosha (the combined elements of ether & air), which explains the dry skin, stiff joints, and random overthinking at 2 a.m. The Ayurvedic solution? Warmth and oil—lots of it. Daily oil massage (abhyanga) with sesame oil keeps the body moisturized and calm, like giving yourself a hug before the cold gets the chance. Add warm baths, fuzzy socks, and layers, and suddenly winter doesn’t seem so rude.

Movement is encouraged, but this is not the season to overdo it. Invite in movement practices that warm, energize and leave you feeling nourished, inside and out. And perhaps most importantly, winter is a time to slow down. Nature is resting, days are shorter, and Ayurveda reminds us that productivity does not have to be loud. So sleep a little more, eat a little richer, and embrace the art of cozy living. Winter isn’t here to punish us—it’s here to teach us how to hibernate like pros (insert mental picture of the cutest little sleeping bear in all the land).”

Enjoy Ashley’s Gentle practice without even leaving bed. We’ve made it free for you this week, so enjoy, practice, and share!

While the Capricorns are finally celebrating the season of the GOAT, everyone else is embracing the solstice.

In the southern hemisphere, folks are welcoming in summertime, while we in the north are celebrating Winter Solstice. Our northernmost Scandinavian neighbors will be welcoming the light back in as the move beyond the long polar night, while those of us in temperate places will embrace cooler nights and a break from running the A/C.

No matter where or how winter is meeting you, it is a time for rest, respite, and reset. Now is not the time to begin anything that’s not necessary. Pour a cup of cocoa… maybe every night. Cuddle under your favorite blanket, and don your coziest socks. Enjoy more soups and stews during what TCM identifies as the season dominated by the water element and yin.

Practices that will be helpful are any that encourage you to feel good. Elena made one for free for all, regardless of membership status.

Enjoy our series curated to support taking a break during the busiest time of the year. With soothing postures and winter-inspired Yoga Nidra, you’ll soften holiday stress, ground your energy, and create space for peace, presence, and inner warmth. Most practices are 30 minutes or less, with a longer Restorative class.

More and more we see Sacred Cacao ceremonies being led by folks named Jeff within yoga communities. We can do things differently. Recontextualizing sacred ritual within their indigenous contexts is an easily accessible way to honor indigenous communities and to practice the yogic principle of satya — truthspeaking.

Swipe to see more ways to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day. Add more in the comments.
