Our Brazos Towers residents know how to do a day out RIGHT! We took a trip to the Houston Junior Forum Resale Shop in the Heights — Houston's beloved upscale resale treasure trove since 1969 — and scored some fabulous finds in furniture, vintage décor, jewelry, and more. Then? Martinis at lunch, naturally. Because life at Brazos Towers is all about friendship, fun, and a little flair.

Each spring, Brazos Towers residents make the beloved annual trip to Brenham to experience one of Texas' most cherished traditions — the blooming of the bluebonnets. This year was no exception. The drive through Washington County, with wildflowers lining the back roads and the countryside in full color, is a reminder of just how beautiful this state can be.

The group also made a stop at the historic Blue Bell Creameries, where a scoop at the parlor has become a cherished part of the outing. The homemade vanilla is, as always, worth every mile of the drive.

It was a wonderful day shared by all — the kind of outing that speaks to the heart of Texas living.

Throwback: Our February Chili Cook-off was one for the books.

This past February, our talented Brazos Towers staff rolled up their sleeves and got to cooking — and the residents had the very important job of deciding whose chili reigned supreme.

Each staff member brought their best recipe to the table, some seasoned with years of Texas tradition and a little friendly rivalry. The residents savored every bowl, deliberated with great seriousness, and rendered their verdicts with the authority the occasion deserved.

It was a wonderful afternoon that brought staff and residents together in the best possible way — sharing food, swapping stories, and celebrating the kind of community that makes Brazos Towers feel like home. We are already looking forward to next year.

Brazos Towers residents recently enjoyed a memorable outing to The Health Museum's Age in Our Times exhibit — and we had our very own talent in the spotlight. Resident Carolyn Dahl is one of the featured writers in this remarkable exhibition, and she gave us the special gift of reading her poem aloud right there in the gallery.

Age in Our Times is part of The Health Museum's Healing Arts Program and reframes what it means to grow older through the perspectives of 38 local artists and writers. Juried by leaders in caregiving, consciousness, and the arts, the exhibition acknowledges both the joys and challenges of aging — from resilience and renewal to the realities of decline. Spanning mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, sculpture, and photography, visitors can also experience written pieces through recordings accessed via retro pay phones within the exhibition. What emerges is a multicultural and intergenerational dialogue that honors the voices of older adults and caregivers while inspiring all generations to reflect on their own paths.

Life at Brazos Towers means never running out of ways to enrich the mind and feed the soul. Recently, our residents enjoyed a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston to experience Buddha | Nature: Five Dialogues on Our Shared World, a breathtaking exhibition on view through May 10, 2026.

The exhibit pairs five ancient Buddhist sculptures from the Xuzhou Collection with works by six international contemporary artists, exploring key teachings of Buddhism within a dialogue about nature, collective responsibility, and individual agency.

The juxtaposition of old an new art created a space for deep contemplation as the residents wandered between the five galleries.

It was the perfect outing for our community, and a reminder that curiosity and culture have no age limit.
