Brazos Towers Residents wrapped up spooky season with an open-air bus tour of Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery on Mister McKinney's History Bus! Founded in 1922, the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery is 314 acres —the second-largest in the country! Residents had an enlightening experience, learning all about the notable burials and the surrounding land from Mr. McKinney. Now on to celebrating Thanksgiving!

Owner Elouise Adams has crafted an imaginative menu that reflects her born-in-Texas palate, the Gulf Coast, her grandmother's elegant Louisiana cooking, and her own "Southern foods and eclectic tendencies." Brazos Towers residents helped other seniors by shopping at The Guild Shop at St. John the Divine. Started more than 60 years ago, The Guild Shop supports partner organizations that help older adults in need in the greater Houston Area. After shopping the best selection of consigned clothing, jewelry, and curios in Houston, the Brazos Tower residents made their way to the locally owned and operated Upper Kirby Bistro for an afternoon bite. It was a lovely afternoon of supporting Houstonians of all stripes! Outings like these are part of the reason Brazos Towers has won Best Retirement Home from the Houston Chronicle six years in a row. Brazos Tower Residents took a trip to the Brookwood Community outside of Houston for some dining and shopping! They provide an educational environment that creates meaningful work, builds a sense of belonging, and awakens a genuine purpose in the lives of adults with disabilities. Both the Gift and Garden Center and the Cafe support the community's mission, with staff comprised of community members. It was a lovely day supporting a fantastic mission and community! Residents and Team Members gathered for a Summer Scavenger Hunt! Scrambling through the halls and common areas of Brazos Towers, working solo and together as teams, residents and staff were able to bring out the best in one another! The fastest Associate and the fastest Resident to return their checklist completed won the coveted Golden Shoe Award (that is passed to winners from year to year). Scavenger items on the list included the Piano with the green cushion, a sign that said "yada, yada, yada," an eight-ball, a ram’s horn and more. It was a light-hearted event that encouraged the Residents and the Associates to cover the entirety of the campus on the First Floor, pulling out details they may have overlooked before. At Brazos Towers we believe in blurring the lines between residents and staff and bring us all to a place where we’re family. This wacky summer scramble is just one of the great ways we forge deeper relationships in our community all while having a little late summer fun!

Brazos Tower Residents looked for treasures at the Houston Junior Forum Resale Shop, a treasure trove of unique finds! The Resale Shop has been supporting the Junior Forum's mission of providing charitable service for children, youth, women, and senior adults in the greater Houston area since 1969. It features an eclectic mix of furniture and vintage items, including men's and women's clothing, as well as jewelry. There is something for everyone! After shopping until they dropped, Brazos Tower Residents then had lunch at Flower Child, a healthy eatery with the tagline "Healthy Food for a Happy World." The fresh salads, wraps, and bowls certainly made the residents' bellies happy!
