The importance of a sport physical cannot be overemphasized. In the past month, at least 7 athletic teens have died suddenly. Most common causes are cardiac related and excessive heat. I highly recommend parents to do cardiac work up for their male athletic sons. Listen to them when they complain of chest pain no matter how casually they tell you, encourage them to “listen” to their bodies especially when on the field. Also, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
