Do you know that oils have a smoke point? Certain oils burn at a higher temperature. When smoke begins to come out, it has reached that point where it starts to burn. Below are some of the commonly used oils and their smoke points for reference.

Remember ghee is the best source of fat because it contains the healthy fats and tend to have a higher smoke point. Unrefined and cold pressed oils are the best. Refined oils are processed using high temperatures so they are typically denatured. Always read the labels to see how the oil was made.

Use of spices in cooking and medicine was part of Ayurveda for thousands of years. Plants used for medicine have more potent qualities than plants that are considered as food. The use of medicine in food has been around Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine which makes that practice special because medicine is used not only for its therapeutic benefits but also for preventative benefits.

Certain spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander, fennel, fenugreek, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, nutmeg, ajwain, mustard seeds, ginger, garlic, etc. have powerful medicinal value when used in therapeutic doses to treat particular diseases but in small doses they are wonderful to take daily as preventatives.

Not only that, they aid in digestion by increasing digestive fire and helping absorb nutrients, reduces flatulence as carminatives but also has anti bacterial and anti microbial effects to keep the food fresh. The right combination will also make the food delicious and pleasing to eat so they are appetizing as well.

Along with those, each spice contains health benefits that aids in longevity. Ayurveda is all about treating and preventing diseases.

So next time you cook, think of all the wonderful benefits these spices bring to your meal. If you are not used to including spices in your food, think of ways to add small amounts when you cook. When medicine becomes food, then food becomes medicine! What a great way to enjoy a healthy life.

Hello everyone!
I wanted to share this video to explain what energy healing is because many of you might be wondering how it works. Please take time to watch this video to understand.

Reiki is also a form of energy healing that sends life essence (Prana, Qi) through the body by a healer to accelerate the healing process in the body.

So many wonderful benefits including calming of the mind, feeling grounded, release of stress, helps with anxiety and emotional and mental support.

I’m sure most of you are familiar with what a migraine headache is. The pain is unbearable so it can be debilitating and can take much of your day to deal with. If you or someone you know suffers from migraine headaches, listed below are some triggers.
Here are some of the food items that may trigger a migraine headache.
1. Chocolate
2. Dairy products like cheese, ice cream, yogurt
3. Citrus types of fruits like oranges, tangerines
4. Coffee
5. Nitrate containing food like cured meats
6. Spicy food
7. Food types that are drying such as bread, crackers, cookies, barley, millet
8. Alcohol

Avoid:
- Stress
- Anger
- Staying hungry
- Staying up late
- Too much of cold wind, sun, heat, smoke
- Spicy, fried and raw food

Ginger is a great herb to take during the prodrome, which is the 30 minute period before the actual migraine hits. During this time people feel the sensations of it coming along so taking about 2 tablespoons of dry ginger powder can mitigate the migraine episode.
Other herbs such as ashwagandha and gotu kola can help reduce stress. Removing causes of stress, upset and anger can help in managing this condition. Identifying triggers can help to prevent recurrence and help manage migraines better.
