As part of my practice, I serve as an investigator for clinical trials to advance treatments in medical and cosmetic dermatology.
One of the biggest breakthroughs as a result of clinical research is treatments for moderate to severe Alopecia Areata.
➡️ Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune type of hair loss that can be devastating to patients. They can have development of sometimes circular patches on the scalp which is devastating enough. But, some people get severe alopecia where they might lose all or most of their scalp hair.
Dr. Bruce and I participated in the pivotal clinical trial that lead to the FDA approval of Olumiant last summer, an oral medication that has helped many patients regrow their hair. Last week a second medication, Litfulo, received its FDA approval, and there are more drugs in the pipeline to help these patients.
It has been so rewarding to see these patients have their hair return and feel confident in their own skin! ⭐️
Daxxify: a longer lasting neuromodulator
The largest clinical trial for Daxxify has been in the glabellar lines or the "11" lines that show up between the brows.
In that trial, the average duration was 6 months but some patients had results for many as 9 months, some fewer than 6 months.
The ideal person to consider daxxify? If your current neuromodulator isn't lasting at least 3 months, or if you have difficulty coming in to the office 3-4 times per year, discuss daxxify with your dermatologist!
