Cooking and understanding how to make simple nourishing meals should be a prerequisite for having children. There I said it!

One would imagine if their child had back to back doctor appointments that they would take the time and energy to invest in their child’s diet vs contributing to mitochondrial and metabolic stress while driving inflammation with a high glycemic ultrasound processed “lunch”.

I feel terrible for that child dealing with concerning health issues to necessitate back to back doctor appointments as they obviously aren’t feeling well or thriving and they are missing out in life while becoming labeled as ill or having a disease state this alone robs freedom and quality of life. Now what condition, I don’t have knowledge of to be fair, but in 15 successful years as a functional medicine practitioner am quite confident I could favorably impact with diet and targeted supplements.

The author claiming she hasn’t seen kids eat wholesome real foods apparently doesn’t know any of these so called “crunchy moms” as I’m literally in a community of them and our children have savory diverse pallets. She sounds hands off and very willing to trust the science and medical interventions without putting in the foundational efforts at the kitchen table.

My child has only gone to the doctor once in her 9 years of life aside from the annual wellness back to school check up and had never taken a medication. We are pro-vigilant on any undesired symptom and resolve things quickly with yes often more effort and energy in the natural approaches over pharma but I can’t think of anything in my world more worth my effort, attention, and energy!

I am a full-time plus working entrepreneur real food mama and yes it requires meal planning, intention, and time but what we eat literally becomes a part of us on a biochemical and cellular level. This cop out piece sets the tone for apathy and honestly lazy parenting.

We put out Naturally Nourished Kids to empower parents to support their kids and teens health. It doesn’t have to be complicated but it does have to be intentional and yes requires some effort! Take back the wellness of your home at your table with real food.

All too often, we see pink ribbon campaigns on ultra processed foods or endocrine disrupting products and messaging emphasizing annual mammogram but this is NOT enough and often these products drive more harm than good.

In today’s episode of the Naturally Nourished Podcast, we explore the role of thermography as a tool for breast health monitoring, the risks and considerations tied to mammograms, and special concerns for women with dense or fibrocystic breasts. You will gain a deeper understanding of how different screening methods compare and what proactive steps you can take to better support long-term breast health. When did my “mini me” get so big? Stella you are 9 years old but the things you teach me are so grand!

It’s been wild to see her grow into such a confident, compassionate, conscious leader. And I know in my heart of hearts, me being who I am and honoring my calling as a functional medicine practitioner and entrepreneur aids in shaping her strength even though I’d love to just soak her all in all day long to myself.

It’s hard especially in this natural lifestyle culture, where homeschooling is the expectation, to be a full time working mom. Honestly as an entrepreneur with a virtual clinic, podcast, YouTube, supplement line, it’s way more than full time demands and I often feel the pangs of choosing between where I want to be and with whom (my people, Stella and Brady) vs what I need to get done.

But when I step back and look at who she is and the young woman she is becoming I know I am more than present in her life and am doing something right. Whenever I can without hesitation…I pour into her and ensure daily quality connection.

I’ve been working on intentional time and focused phone-free non-distracted daily two hour minimums. Sometimes this is driving 30 min to dance each way as an hour, screen free connected convos as she downloads about her day and processes situations. Others it’s doing art together, walking the dog, preparing a meal, it’s always intentional conversation and authentic connection.

We end each day with praying thanking God for the “3 things I’m most grateful for today” and we exit each AM cheering each other on to “be kind and shine your light sister!”

I was going through our hope chest and organizing her work from 1-3rd grade and came across a picture that said “Mom you were always there for me when I needed you. You taught me about God and how to love. You are my best friend.”

And I sat there and smiled knowing deeply that it is all as it should be. Abandoning my calling as a healer wouldn’t amplify my family, sometimes even the best of mamas have to share themselves outside of the home and with the world for a purpose…I honor this and know Stella does as well 🫶
