Why is Body Composition Analysis Important?
With a clear understanding of your body composition, you can improve your health and change your life for the better. A healthy balance between fat and muscle is vital for health and wellness throughout life. Scientific evidence shows that a healthy body composition will increase your lifespan; reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, insulin resistance, etc.; increase energy levels, and improve self-esteem.
Simply stepping on a scale and measuring your weight unfortunately is not an indicator of your quality of health. Scales are not able to distinguish between pounds that come from body fat, lean body mass, water or muscle. Obesity, the condition of carrying too much fat puts a person at risk for many serious medical conditions including heart disease, diabetes and even certain forms of cancer.
This composition/assessment goes well beyond weight, measuring for:
· Total Body weight (muscle, water and fat)
· Adequate muscle mass
· Body Mass Index (BMI)
· Percentage of body fat (PBF)
· Body water levels
· Visceral fat levels (the fat surrounding your organs)
The most important part of this assessment is knowing your percentage of body fat and muscle. As we get older we tend to lose muscle. Your body is complex and we need to stop focusing on just losing weight. Instead, let’s focus on gaining muscle, losing fat and making sure our bodies are properly fueled and healthy.
