This Women’s HERstory Month we celebrate and honor just a few of the women who have healed, comforted, and changed lives through nursing. ❤️

Dame Cicely Saunders - The founder of the modern hospice movement.

Florence nightingale - Also known as “Lady with the lamp.” She modernized nursing with hygiene standards.

Mary Eliza Mahoney - The first African American to earn a professional nursing lisence in the US.

Clara Barton- The founder of Red Cross in 1881.

Lilian Wald - A notable women rights activist and the founder of American community nursing.

Dorothea Dix - A superintendent of army nurses during civil war and advocate for mentally ill.

Mary Edwards Walker - A civil war surgeon and nurse. As well as the ONLY woman to receive congressional Medal of Honor.

Mary Seacole - Established the British Hotel during the Crimean war to provide food and medicine to Soldiers.

Harriet Tubman - Most famously known for leading many to freedom through the Underground Railroad, but also served as a nurse for the union army during the civil war.
