Our Story

Dr. Stephen Slade formed Slade & Baker Vision with Dr. Richard Baker in 1996. Since then, the practice has expanded to include Dr. Bennett Walton and Dr. Shama Essa. The doctors of Slade & Baker Vision specialize in treating patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia (those who have age-related problems reading without glasses). Additionally, many patients with cataracts, glaucoma or corneal problems (including keratoconus) come to Slade & Baker Vision from all over the world.

Our doctors were the first to perform LASIK in the United States, first to perform laser cataract surgery in the US, performed the first commercial Raindrop near vision inlay in the US and were among the first to perform SMILE laser vision correction in the US. Our practice led the largest US corneal collagen cross-linking trial before the procedure reached FDA approval. Similarly, many of the advanced technology intraocular lenses in the US are available for use during cataract surgery because of our doctors’ research as part of FDA clinical trials to ensure safety and efficacy.

We offer extensive experience with the latest technology and analyze our outcomes to consistently improve our results, but more importantly, we strive to understand each of our patient’s needs and wants in order to form a customized plan.
