screening looks different at every age. Experts recommend that you start talking with your doctor about your personal risk of breast cancer as early as age 25. Depending on your family history or other factors, you may qualify for genetic counseling, earlier screening or both.

If you have a higher risk of breast cancer, screening may begin as early as age 30, or 10 years before the age a close relative was diagnosed. Because each person’s health needs are unique, it’s important to talk with your doctor about a personalized approach to screening.

Organizations that set medical screening guidelines now universally recommend starting mammogram screening at age 40 if you have an average risk of breast cancer. Across our broader HCA Healthcare network, caregivers perform approximately 1.5 million mammograms each year, helping patients take proactive steps toward early detection and better outcomes. If it’s time to schedule your next mammogram visit https://bit.ly/3Kyzb6b.

About every three minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with blood cancer, according to Blood Cancer United. Learn about the main types of blood cancer and common symptoms from Dr. Navneet Majhail – a hematologist and physician in chief of blood cancers for the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Cancer Network.

As a part of HCA Healthcare, we give our patients healthier tomorrows through access to a connected oncology network, including 11 blood cancer treatment programs that make up the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network. Through this network, over 1,000 acute leukemia patients receive treatment each year. For some blood cancers, the only potential treatment option is a blood and marrow transplant or cellular therapy (also known as CAR T-cell therapy). The Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network is the nation's leading provider of these highly specialized and innovative therapies conducting over 1,500 procedures annually.

With the new school year well underway, remember that learning can’t begin too soon. 📚 Through our partnership with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation we help educate and equip parents to be their child’s first teachers through the Raising a Reader Program.

Staff, nurses and physicians at several of our hospitals engage with new mothers about their important role in their child’s literacy development and provide them with a literacy bag, which includes a new book, a library card, information about the free resources available at the local library, and more. We believe that by nurturing early literacy and fostering healthy brain development in our community's youngest members, we're sowing the seeds for for our next generation. For many patients with blood cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, a blood stem cell transplant – made possible by lifesaving donations – is the best option for survival. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), 70% of patients who need a blood stem cell transplant don't have a fully matched donor in their family, leading them to rely on the NMDP.

As part of HCA Healthcare, we’re proud to help meet this critical need through the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network. This extensive network is among the largest providers of unrelated bone marrow donor transplants in the U.S., caring for tens of thousands of patients each year.

Thinking about becoming a donor? Here are a few common misconceptions and facts about blood stem cell and bone marrow donation:

❌ Myth: Donation is very painful.
✅ Fact: Discomfort and side effects vary from person to person, but it may be less painful than you think.

❌ Myth: Donation is expensive.
✅ Fact: Donating is free. All of your medical and travel expenses are covered by NMDP, and they can also help cover any lost wages due to donation.

❌ Myth: Only males can donate blood stem cells or bone marrow.
✅ Fact: Anyone between age 18 and 40 who meets the medical requirements can donate, regardless of gender.

We are happy to honor the crucial role that our surgical technologists play in caring for our patients. Their skills and dedicated work make every procedure possible. They ensure that each surgery room is prepared before, during and after surgery by assisting with instruments, equipment and anticipating the needs of the surgeon and healthcare team. Their role is critical to monitoring a sterile environment, a patient's positioning for anesthesia and surgery and are dedicated to our patients receiving the highest level of care.

We proudly celebrate our Surgical Techs and their commitment to patient safety and excellence. This level of expertise contributed to our recent Healthgrades Critical Care Excellence Award. Together, we care for our community and their well-being.

During we celebrate Nyla’s NICU graduation after 120 days in the Level IV Advanced NICU Small Baby Unit at The Woman's Hospital of Texas.

Nyla was born at 23 weeks, weighing a tiny 1 lb. 2.3 oz. She was small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, yet she carried a spirit larger than life. For 120 days, Nyla fought with everything she had and we had to privilege of joining her in that fight. At her graduation party, Nyla weighed 9 lbs. 6 oz. 💪

Nyla’s journey is a beautiful reminder of the strength of our tiniest patients and the dedication of the NICU care teams across our seven NICUs than range from Level II to Level IV, meaning that regardless of hospital of birth, we are able to get infants the care they need when they need it.
