Wellspring Midwifery Care & Birth Center is all about health advocacy and empowerment. You have a choice in your maternity care, and we encourage you to choose someone you trust, whose birth philosophy aligns well with your own. Trusting Him and caring for your whole body (the holistic model of care) help to ensure a safe, low-risk delivery in the comfort of our birth center or your own home. WMCBC utilizes natural alternatives through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, especially the use of high quality essential oils and herbs. Most women birthing at a birth center or at home choose waterbirth for the extra comfort provided to mom and the gentle transition for the baby. Clients of WMCBC have the option of birthing in our beautiful birth center or at home, where they are loaned a birth pool at no extra charge. A beloved Wellspring family is adopting a sweet precious soul, and I had the privilege of meeting the new little one yesterday. I’m beyond happy for them, and it’s evident there is a divine plan for this girl’s life. Congratulations, mama T and papa T! 🩷

POV: You transfer a midwifery client to the hospital, where you run into one of your favorite NICU nurses… the one who stabilized your micro-preemie the night she was born then became your friend after spending 3.5 months together in the NICU cheering that baby on. 🥹🥰

Welcome to the world, baby Isla Honey! Born at 11:02 pm on January 10, she weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and was 19.75 inches long. We are grateful for the on-call OB, nursing and support staff at HCA Kingwood for making this a great experience for this first-time mama, who chose a little pharmacological pain relief after being up all night in labor. She did a phenomenal job! Congratulations, mama C and papa N! 🩷

The new dietary recommendations are in line with common nutritional advice for pregnancy. Most midwives encourage 80-100+ grams of protein daily (remember that meat is not the only source of protein), plenty of healthy fruits and veggies, and choosing whole grains over refined carbs. Keep in mind that it’s best to eat a nutrient-dense diet, especially when your body is building a whole new body inside you. 🩷

Welcome to the world, baby Jubal Dane! Born at the birth center at 12:56 pm today, he was 7 lb 9 oz and 20.25 inches long. He is the first Wellspring baby of 2026! His parents drove over an hour to come to Wellspring, and we are so honored. He was born quickly and smoothly on the birth center floor while waiting for the tub to fill! Sometimes the babies aren’t patient enough for a waterbirth. 😅 Congratulations, mama E and papa K! 🩵

Found this in the OpenStax "Introduction to Sociology 3e" textbook. They meant to say "midwife" somewhere in here, I'm certain of it.

"Historically and contemporaneously, many aspects of women’s lives have been medicalized, including menstruation, premenstrual syndrome, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. The medicalization of pregnancy and childbirth has been particularly contentious in recent decades, with many women opting against the medical process and choosing a more natural childbirth. Fox and Worts (1999) find that all women experience pain and anxiety during the birth process, but that social support relieves both as effectively as medical support. In other words, medical interventions are no more effective than social ones at helping with the difficulties of pain and childbirth. Fox and Worts further found that women with supportive partners ended up with less medical intervention and fewer cases of postpartum depression."

Welcome to the world, baby Everly Mae Winter! Born today at 2:30 pm on the way to the birth center (yes, a car birth!), she weighed 7 lb 6 oz and was 20 inches long. Her mama wanted to catch her own baby, and she most certainly did! She is the fourth Wellspring Baby in her family, and her daddy shared a sweet story with me today that I didn’t remember. They came for a consultation at Wellspring during their first pregnancy, but decided to have that baby in the hospital. After that experience, they decided to have their second baby at Wellspring, and now (four babies later!), it feels like we’re family. 🥰 Congratulations, mama A and papa W! 🩷
