I do NOT recommend pausing breastfeeding to assess production if there is no evidence of low production. If everything seems to be going well and baby seems content and is growing appropriately, trust the process. You've got this!

A multidisciplinary approach gives the most optimal and predictable outcomes when treating babies with tongue tie and oral restrictions. A baby that latches, without pain, and is gaining weight well does not mean they are latching well. A baby with ties will compensate to get by. Having a good release provider and bodyworker is extremally important, but it is NOT a substitute for working with an IBCLC and/or SLP to work on sucking skills and proper oral mechanics to insure sustainability and good feeding skills.

It's good to know that these feeding changes are a normal part of development. If your baby is feeding more often, and continues this higher frequency more than a few days, that would be a new feeding pattern not cluster feeding. If the feeding frequency stays high (greater than 13 times per 24 hours for a baby up to 3 months old) see a lactation consultant to make sure the baby is feeding well and not compensating for poor feeds with a high feeding frequency.

Most parents will use a bottle to feed their baby at one point or another. Unfortunately, this lack of standardization makes things more complicated. Appropriate flow is an very important component of bottle feeding and every baby is different. A lot of companies various ni**le flow rates advertised for different age babies is just marketing.

Although a baby should have the ability to suck on a pacfier, many babies are not interested in sucking on one. Although these can be great tools for sucking training when instructed by an IBCLC or SLP for babies with certain feeding challenges, there are drawbacks. Things to consider are how it can impact milk supply, affect sucking skills when breastfeeding and impact oral anatomy.
