What a whirlwind week! Humanity at its best. Great Operation Smile mission in Lima with friends new and old. 13 years seems like a flash. A crazy journey of going from a fellow to coming back as the surgical team leader. The job may change but the people remain amazing. Gracias por todo!

Finally over the jet lag. An overwhelmingly successful trip with our group . This year we had 47 volunteers from around the globe at 9 hospitals in 3 cities (Hanoi, Saigon, Hue). Multiple education workshops and collaborations. Great to put our heads together with the group and Noordhoff Craniofacial foundation for future collaboration. Our Vietnamese partners’ programs are growing so rapidly!

No rest for the weary! Straight off the plane from Hanoi->Seoul->Boston for the meeting where our team had 6 oral presentations and a few posters. Amazing opportunity to highlight some of the work we do in ! Fun to moderate the panel on “The Modern Craniofacial Surgeon: Tools for Innovation and Evolution”. As always great to see old friends.

Great having visit us this past month! She is a final year medical student in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. She has previously joined us on trips in Vietnam and her visit coincided with our Director of Vietnam operations who was here for a brief visit as well. Hot off the press!! This article will be in the January issue of . We review our outcomes of alveolar bone grafting comparing autologous iliac crest, synthetic HA/TCP and rhBMP2 showing that this may be a viable alternative. This work was pre-dated by some pre-clinical animal studies I conducted at 17 years ago while as a postdoctoral research fellow! This may lead to reduced patient morbidity in the future!
