Today I had the incredible honor of working on one of our elite heroes — a man who served in Vietnam and in many other places around the world. 🇺🇸

There is something sacred about listening to the stories of our elders. The courage. The sacrifice. The resilience. It makes me deeply proud to serve those who have served us and protected the freedoms we often take for granted.

Four years ago, my sister had complications after surgery and began having what doctors call functional seizures (also known as psychogenic non-epileptic seizures / PNES). They look like epileptic seizures, but they’re not caused by the brain’s electrical misfiring—instead, they can be the nervous system’s response to overwhelming stress and threat. These symptoms are real and involuntary. �

At first, when the doctor said “psychosomatic,” she heard, “It’s all in your head.”

That’s not what it meant.
What it meant was: her system was trying to protect her—like a fire alarm going off when the nervous system believes danger is present. �

This video was taken a couple months later. She’s trying to lift her foot—something that should be simple, but when neural pathways get disrupted, even basic movement can feel like trying to send a text with mittens on.

This is the part people don’t see: the cost of living in survival mode for too long.

Will this happen to everyone? No.

What happens during a first medical massage session
If you’ve only ever had a “relaxation massage,” your first medical massage can feel like, “Oh… we’re actually solving problems in here.” 😅

Here’s what you can expect:

Quick intake + goals
We’ll talk about what’s going on (pain, tightness, old injuries, stress patterns), what you’ve tried, and what you want to feel different after today.

Posture + movement check (when needed)
Sometimes I’ll look at how you’re standing, walking, or moving—because the body tells the truth even when we’re trying to be polite.

A plan, not a guessing game
I’ll explain what I’m noticing, what I’m going to focus on, and what the session may feel like. Medical massage is targeted—because your time and money deserve strategy.

Focused, therapeutic work
This might include deeper pressure where appropriate, trigger point work, myofascial techniques, or specific muscle groups related to your issue. It’s not “hurt to heal”—it’s effective to heal.

Re-check + simple homework
We’ll reassess how you feel, and I may give you a quick stretch, corrective exercise, or self-care tip to keep results going at home.

It shows up in your muscles… and your body has a few favorite places to store it like it’s paying rent. 😅

Here’s what I feel on the table all the time:

😬 Jaw + temples: clenching, TMJ tension, headaches
🧠 Neck + upper traps: “I carry the world on my shoulders” tightness
🫁 Chest + ribs: shallow breathing, tight pecs, that stuck feeling
🧱 Mid-back: stiffness from posture + stress bracing
🔥 Low back + hips: nervous system guard mode, tight hip flexors/glutes
🖐️ Forearms + hands: gripping (steering wheel, phone, life… all of it)

Your body isn’t being dramatic—it's being protective.
The goal isn’t “push through it”… it’s helping your nervous system downshift so your muscles can finally let go.

Schedule yourself like you matter.
Not as the leftover time slot. Not as the “if I have time.”
On the calendar. On purpose. Consistently.
