The family of Evelyn Pearl King expressed their appreciation for the care and compassion their mother received in the emergency room, medical-surgical unit, hospice, and from Dr. Donald Schaefer, emergency room physician, and Dr. Kristina Grant, family medicine and obstetrics physician.
The family shared that on August 4, their mother had a stroke or seizure during breakfast and never really came out of it. She was brought to the emergency room by ambulance.
"We just want to say thank you to Dr. Schaefer and nurse Holly for the wonderful, compassionate care that was given to mom. Dr. Schaefer told us that he believed Mom's body was shutting down, and hospice was called. The RN, Cheryl, from hospice, was nice, and soon Mom was transferred to the second floor. The day shift nurses, Sam, Kayla, and Mason, along with aides Cassie, Kim, and Jennifer, helped Mom get settled. Dr. Grant visited our family and spoke with us.
Mom was 98 years old - 99 in one week. She had a good life - rarely used a walker unless she wasn't feeling well, but in July, she had a lot of health issues. She was ready to go home to Jesus and our dad. Out-of-state family members were contacted, and Mom could hear them tell her they loved her. She mouthed, "I love you too," or waved her fingers. Night staff nurses, Nici, Maddie, Melissa, and Jessica, with aides Gracyn and Debbie, continued the moms' care. Everyone was so very nice - they brought us a tray of drinks and snacks and made sure we had enough chairs. Around 3 am, Mom went to Heaven.
We cannot thank you enough for the excellent care Mom received. We have been to the ER before, and every time your staff have been very professional, but also friendly and personal. Texas County Memorial Hospital is one you should all be very proud of!”
We want to thank the family of Evelyn for taking the time to recognize our TCMH staff for their compassionate care and kindness during this difficult time. We are grateful to have such a great staff that genuinely cares for their patients as if they were their own family.
