Turn The Tide Family Services PLLC offers counseling services for individuals, couples, families, and groups using Biblical principles and research supported interventions. Our mission is to assist our clients in achieving individual wholeness and healthy relationships. Therapists
Misti Nielsen, MA, LMFT

Individuals - To achieve individual wholeness, we seek to incorporate body, mind, and spirit into the practice of therapy. We believe that hope for change comes through one's faith and therefore seek to take seriously the faith of the client. Couples - Our therapists are trained to work with most couple issues and primarily use Biblical principles and techniques found in research supported Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy. Couples can learn to experience their relationships as safe and nurturing. We work collaboratively with our clients to get underneath the surface issues to the core of the conflict. This helps the couple find new ways of experiencing each other and expressing their needs and desires in a more straightforward manner, which enables each partner to meet those core needs. Families - Our therapists work with families through a number of potential issues. These include resolving lifecycle transitions, parenting conflicts, blended family concerns, and extended family conflicts. For those who are separating, divorced, or remarried we strive to help each family member grieve their loss, find healing and wholeness, and forge a new working relationship for the parents. The loss of family stability and security has a profound effect on children who bear the burden of internal conflict, which results in loss of a healthy identity, low self-esteem, fear, guilt, and shame. Therapy is essential in addressing these issues and helping children become healthy adults. Example groups include:
1) Premarital Workshops on the 2nd Saturday each month.
2) Forgiveness and Reconciliation - These groups will focus on helping individuals recover from broken relationships by walking through the steps of forgiveness. The desired outcome of this process is reconciliation, when safe and possible.
2) Be Transformed - This group's curriculum was created through Scope Ministries and seeks to assist men and women in finding their identity in Christ.
3) Parents of Adult Children - These groups assist parents to cope with unsolvable issues that are present with their adult children.

Meet The Therapist:

Leela Roy is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who views her work as both a profession and a ministry. She specializes in Emotion-Focused Therapy, one of two research-supported models for couples counseling, and prayerfully incorporates a biblical perspective into the therapeutic process whenever invited by her clients.

Leela earned her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and her Bachelor of Science in Christian Counseling from Liberty University, along with her Associate of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences from San Jacinto College.

God has placed a special passion on Leela’s heart for working with teenagers. She loves building relationships with her teen clients, helping them discover their God-given strengths, and walking with them as they set personal goals for their relationships, activities, and spiritual growth. Together, she helps them build the tools they need to flourish in Christ.

Leela is a Certified SYMBIS (Save Your Marriage Before It Starts) facilitator, part of the most widely used premarital program in the world. She is also a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner, with experience supporting foster and adoptive families as they live out God’s heart for orphans and vulnerable children.

As a therapist, Leela’s desire is to encourage her clients to live fully and completely for Christ. This often means walking alongside them through trials, helping them find hope and perseverance in passages like James 1:2–8, while also celebrating the joys and victories God brings into their lives. Her ultimate goal is to glorify God by serving His people with compassion, wisdom, and grace.

Leela is married to her husband, John, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran & NASA Engineer. They were married in San Diego, where they served together with Faith Warrior Ministries, discipling military families and college students. Today, they live in League City, Texas, with their daughter, and are active members of LifePoint Church. Leela is eager to see how God will continue to use her life and calling to minister to others through counseling.
