Everyone experiences anxiety. It is a normal part of being human and it can even be helpful at times. But sometimes anxiety starts to interfere with daily life in ways that signal something more.

How do you know the difference between typical worry and an anxiety disorder? In Bailey Grunder’s newest blog, she explain the key signs to look for and when it may be time to seek professional support.

Eating disorders rarely exist in isolation.

They often develop alongside anxiety disorders, depression, or substance use. In fact, anxiety disorders are one of the most common co-occurring conditions we see in both adolescents and adults struggling with eating concerns.

When we only treat the food behaviors and ignore the underlying anxiety, perfectionism, fear, or need for control, recovery becomes harder to sustain.

This National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, we are proud to partner with to highlight the full picture. Understanding how anxiety and eating disorders intersect helps reduce stigma and leads to more effective, evidence-based care.

Healing is possible. And treating the whole person matters.

Eating disorders show up in ways that are easy to miss or easy to minimize.

It is not always dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like skipping meals.
Canceling plans.
Constant thoughts about food or body.
Feeling out of control around eating.
Or physical symptoms that do not fully make sense.

Eating disorders affect children, teens, and adults across genders, body sizes, and backgrounds. And they are treatable.

This National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, we are proud to partner with to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and remind you:

Healing is possible. With the right support, recovery is real.

If you are concerned about yourself or your child, do not wait. Early support matters.

Eating disorders don’t discriminate.

They affect children, teens, adults. Boys and girls. Athletes. High achievers. Quiet perfectionists. People you would never guess are struggling.

This National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, we’re joining to remind our community that eating disorders impact 1 in 10 Americans — and stigma often keeps people suffering in silence.

At , we see how intertwined eating disorders and anxiety can be. And we also see this every day: with the right support and evidence-based treatment, recovery is absolutely possible.

Let’s keep talking.
Let’s challenge stereotypes.
Let’s make it easier to ask for help.

It’s National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

Eating disorders are serious. They are not about willpower, attention, or “just being picky.” They are complex mental health conditions that often overlap with anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, and shame.

We work with kids, teens, and adults who are struggling, and with parents who are not sure what they are seeing but know something feels off.

This week we will be sharing education, practical guidance, and honest conversations about ARFID, restrictive eating, anxiety-driven food fears, and what real treatment looks like.

If this topic hits close to home, you are not alone. And you do not have to figure it out by yourself.

Confidence is a skill.
And it can be taught!

Our two signature summer camps are back by popular demand — designed to help kids build emotional regulation, flexibility, frustration tolerance, and real coping skills in a structured, supportive setting.

🎨 CBT + Art Camp (Ages 7–12 | June 15–19, 9am–12pm)
Creative expression meets cognitive behavioral skills.

👩‍🍳 CBT + Cooking Camp (Ages 7–12 | June 15–19, 1pm–4pm)
Hands-on activities that build confidence and resilience.

Both camps are:
✔ Therapist-led
✔ Grounded in evidence-based CBT
✔ Small, intentional groups
✔ Designed for kids who experience anxiety or big emotions

This isn’t just a summer activity.
It’s skill-building that lasts beyond June.

Spots are limited.

enjoyed her time with parents at yesterday talking about the “messy middle” - performance anxiety, pressure, executive functioning expectations, and what kids actually need from parents in 6th–8th grade.

One moment that often lands hardest with parents is hearing a child say:
“I think my mom might love my straight A’s more than she actually loves me.”

That belief is *never* true - and yet, for some kids, it feels very real. Performance anxiety often grows not from a lack of love, but from how love, pride, concern, and expectations are perceived during moments of stress, disappointment, or uncertainty.

The conversation explored why performance anxiety is more than just wanting to do well, how fear + pressure + uncertainty fuel stress, and why connection matters more than control at this stage. It also covered executive functioning, normal grade fluctuations, the myth of “high performance everywhere,” and why free time is not a luxury—it’s essential.

Many thanks to Penny Cleaveland and Laure Vermulen for hosting and for creating space for thoughtful, honest conversations with parents.

✨ The one-page parent handout from the talk is available as a resource for YOU!

Thank you to the Awty parent community for showing up reflective, open, and deeply invested in children—not just their outcomes, but their emotional wellbeing too. 💛

When your teen doesn’t want help, it can feel scary, frustrating, and heartbreaking all at once.

You see the struggle. They say “I’m fine.” And suddenly you’re stuck between wanting to protect them and not wanting to push them further away.

In her latest blog, Carla Wall, LPC-A, reminds parents of something important: Help doesn’t always look like therapy, advice, or fixing. Sometimes help looks like staying connected when your teen is pulling away.

✨ Listening without jumping in to solve
✨ Validating their experience, even when you don’t agree
✨ Modeling healthy coping instead of lecturing
✨ Choosing connection over control

You don’t have to force help to still be supportive. And you don’t have to get it perfect to make a difference.

If you’re parenting a teen who isn’t ready for help yet, click the link in our bio to read the full blog. Well worth the read!

Hair pulling. Skin picking. Nail biting. If you’ve noticed this in your child or teen and found yourself wondering why this jd happening or how you can help, you’ll want to read ’ newest blog on Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) in kids and teens.

She discusses:
• why these behaviors happen
• what they are (and what they’re not)
• how evidence-based treatment actually works
• how parents can respond in ways that reduce shame and build skills

This is not about willpower or “just stopping.” It’s about understanding the brain, reducing shame, and giving kids tools that work.
