🍼🫶🏽 This is a lactating breast. Not cysts. Not inflammation. Not “toxic buildup.

Those little bubble-looking spaces?

They’re called alveoli and they’re where milk is made. ✨

Breasts are made up of thousands of tiny milk-producing sacs, clustered into lobules, all connected by a branching highway of ducts 🛣️🧬 that carry milk toward the ni**le.

When milk is present, those alveoli can look:
💧rounded
💧pale or white
💧full and distended

That white you’re seeing?
🥛 That’s milk.

Not stored in one big “reservoir.”

Not sitting in pockets.

Milk is made continuously in these tiny sacs and released when your body gets the signal, like baby suckling, hand expression, pumping, touch, even thinking about your baby 💞

🌸 A few important things most people were never taught:

🩸 Breasts are highly vascular, especially in pregnancy and lactation. All that blood flow supports milk production.
🧠 Milk ejection is hormonal, not mechanical. Oxytocin matters. Safety matters.
📚 This anatomy is normal. Functional. Brilliant.

So if you’ve ever seen images like this labeled as “disease,” “abnormal,” or “concerning”… that’s not your body being wrong, that’s education being missing.

✨ Your body doesn’t fail at feeding.
✨ Your breasts aren’t broken.
✨ This system has sustained human life for thousands of years.

Milk-making isn’t simple.

It’s alive, responsive, and powerful.

And it deserves to be understood, not feared. 🫶🏽🍼

♥️This is a conceptual illustration, not a literal or to-scale image of breast anatomy. It’s meant to show how milk-producing structures relate to ducts and blood supply, not what you would see in a real dissection. The physiology is real but the proportions are illustrative like what we would see in medical education all the time because real anatomy is too small, complex, and layered to photograph clearly sometimes. We often use illustrations in anatomy textbooks, lactation education, and physiology lectures.♥️

There has been a bit of misinformation and confusion so we wanted to set the record straight and keep you informed.

HB 1389 passed WITH amendments that were agreed upon by midwives and consumers alike .

Those amendments ensured that midwives are apart of the advisory council that will determine regulation. The council will:
-be embedded in DOH
- be a midwifery majority always
-has consumer voice included

This is a WIN for midwives and consumers ! Mississippi needs licensed midwives who can care for community ro their fullest capacity.

Mississippi must invest in midwives and the midwifery model of care . And the time is NOW!

At this very moment, I remember thinking…

How we as women—collectively—must raise the bar.

Because this isn’t casual.

This isn’t small.

We literally risk our lives just to bring forth life.

And I remember praying… not for myself only, but for every woman.

That we would be protected.

That we would be guided.

That we would walk with divine discernment before ever making a decision so holy… and so life-altering.

I remember standing there, quietly, asking God to encapsulate me in strength.

To wrap me in peace.

To cover me in something deeper than fear.

And after that conversation with Him…

Something shifted.

I remember the sunlight pouring through my bathroom window like it was brighter than it had ever been before.

Like Heaven was whispering back.

And in that moment, I knew…

It was time.

My Oxytocin High

Welcome to Birth Euphoria! My name is Totiana Smith Michael and I live in Mississippi, born and raised. I am a wife to my amazing husband, Corey, and mother to two crazily adorable little girls, Amaryllis (ah-maryl-lis) & Acacia (ah-kay-seeyah) Michael. I graduated with my diploma from JHHS the year of 2012. I then dated and soon married my husband in 2015, birthed our first child in 2016 in a hospital, opened my small crafting business Virtuous Woman LLC. in 2017 making personalized keepsakes, and birthed our second born in April 2018 at home!

I love families, BIG families, all things babies, breastfeeding, animals, and holistic. My hobbies include writing/blogging (www.sabineflowertea.com), reading, art, music, yoga, calligraphy, pottery crafts (facebook.com/virtuouswomanllc) and a lot more. I am your biggest no s**t taking, women’s advocate and breastfeeding supportin’ neighborhood Doula and friend.

I am a training traditional/cultural doula offering, prenatal, birth, and postpartum services to, but not limited to, the "undeserving" black women in my surrounding communities. My scope of practice range from Bogue Chitto, MS to Madison.
