You have a thyroid receptor in every cell of your body. Think about that. It’s pretty important & an integral part of healthy ovulation, implantation, & a full term pregnancy.

If you’re trying to conceive & it’s not happening, or you are having recurring miscarriages, make sure you get a FULL thyroid panel.

I can’t tell you how many clients who’ve come to me who have been told their thyroid is normal & have unexplained infertility, yet when we test their thyroid it is far from healthy.

This is what you want tested:👇🏼

TSH
Free T3
Free T4
TPO & TGAB (to rule out Hashimotos)

If you’ve struggled with depression, have you ever stopped to wonder what role your hormonal birth control might be playing?

When I was 14, I was prescribed the birth control pill to “treat” PCOS. Not long after, the depression crept in. By 15, I was on Prozac. By 18, I was juggling two SSRIs for depression and anxiety.

It wasn’t until I quit the pill at 21 that everything changed. The fog lifted. Suddenly, it felt like I was seeing the world in color again. Joy felt real again, instead of the relentless sadness and loneliness I was used to.

While on the pill I just felt so disconnected.

Disconnected from my body, others around me, and God.

When I quit the pill, my mood stabilized, and for the first time in years, I no longer needed antidepressants.

I had never connected the dots between my depression and the pill. After all, I’d been on it for most of my teens.

But research is clear: hormonal birth control can increase the risk of depression and anxiety, especially for those with a family history of mental health challenges or for people who are neurodivergent.

So I’ll leave you with this question: Have you truly always been depressed… or have you always just been on the pill?

Just because your cycle is regular doesn’t mean it’s healthy.

🩸 So… is your menstrual cycle actually healthy? Let’s ask a few key questions. 👇🏼

 ➡️ Are you ovulating?

Not all bleeding = ovulation. A true period only happens after ovulation.

To confirm ovulation:

🌡️ Track your Basal Body Temperature (BBT) – it should rise ~0.2°F and stay elevated.

💧 Check your cervical fluid – stretchy & wet before ovulation, dry after. Try the app + a BBT thermometer for accurate charting.

➡️ Is your luteal phase long enough? This is the ~2 weeks after ovulation. It should be at least 11 days.

A short luteal phase = low progesterone, which may cause:

😵‍💫 Headaches
 😰 Anxiety
😤 Irritability
🤰 Trouble getting or staying pregnant
🐢 Low thyroid symptoms

🤯 All of this just from charting your cycle. Amazing, right?

✨ Want to dive deeper? I created a FREE Period Quiz to help you decode your cycle.

Hormones are important, but they’re never the first place to start.

That fancy urine metabolite test? I don’t want to run it or see results until I’ve first seen your mineral and gut status.

In perimenopause and you want to start hormone replacement? I’m not going to recommend that or connect you to a referral until we’ve put in your core foundations to make sure you’re a healthy host for those hormones in the first place.

❌I’m not the practitioner for those who want to cut corners & get quick symptom care relief that’s not lasting.

✅But I am your girl if you’re looking for root cause solutions & results that last under the guidance of a practitioner who has been doing this for over 10 years. I also have PCOS & am I’m in perimenopause so have personal experience with these specific conditions. (Although perimenopause isn’t a condition or disease it’s just a normal phase of a woman’s life.)

Things I’m not bringing in with me in 2026 (and what I’m bringing in instead!)

1. Parasite cleanse kits to start the new year. These packaged parasite detoxes are one of my pet peeves as a functional practitioner. I’d also add that a parasite cleanse is rarely the first place to start. Most of my clients are not ready for any type of gut protocol until we first address their minerals & nervous system . Jumping into a parasite cleanse often can make people feel worse bc they haven’t addressed minerals, nervous system & drainage pathways first.

⭐️Instead let’s first set the foundations of mineral balance, healthy nervous system, sleep hygiene, light hygiene, & a nutrient rich diet.

2. Treating doctors like Gods & taking their word as a final say. If I’d listened to everything my OBs told me throughout the years I’d still be on birth control, have one o***y, most likely be fat & sick, & I wouldn’t have my beautiful son (doctors told me growing up it would be difficult to have a baby bc of my PCOS but I conceived naturally at 37 on my first try.

The last OB I saw straight up told me I knew more about hormones than she did. 😂

⭐️ Let 2026 be the year we ADVOCATE for ourselves.

3. Testing hormones first. What a waste of time!! With the exception of thyroid hormones. The first tests I run on new clients are a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) paired with a full thyroid panel.

⭐️ Instead let’s stop hyper focusing on hormones because they don’t tell us the “why”

4. Birth control. That s**t is toxic y’all. No need to elaborate here I’ve got more than 1,000 posts on the subject on my feed going back over a decade ago!!

⭐️ Instead let’s allow our God-given hormones to do their thing (which is pretty important..they’re in charge of brain, heart, bone, and overall metabolic health) and run freely through our body. There are hormone free alternatives to birth control. I have a free Birth control 101 class on my website.

5.Toxic people. Energy vampires. Call them what you will.

⭐️Instead let’s surround ourselves with genuine people. Relationships are suppose

I often see the following labs missed when I review previous bloodwork for new clients run by their fertility clinics. These labs give us crucial information which can lead to the root cause of infertility.

Here are the labs to make sure to ask for:

✔ Full Thyroid Panel

TSH
Free T4
Free T3
TPO
TGAB

Most fertility clinics run only TSH and Free T4. This really doesn’t tell us much at all! Free T3 is your active hormone and the antibodies tell us if there is an automimmune component. I often see missed Hashimotos in my practice.

✔ Glucose panel that includes fasting insulin

Fasting glucose
A1C
Fasting Insulin (this marker is often missed. I often seen normal A1C and fasting glucose with elevated fasting insulin)

✔ Inflammatory markers

Hs-CRP
Homocysteine

✔Vitamin D

✔ Total Iron Panel

Ferritin is not accurate on its own. We need the full picture. One pattern I see in my practice often that impedes fertility is iron overload.

Did your doctor tell you the pill will fix all your period problems? perhaps they told you it would help manage perimenopause?

Sure, the synthetic hormones will mask your symptoms. But it’s not getting to the ROOT causes. So meanwhile, the underlying issues are getting worse, & eventually need to be addressed.

Ex: inflammation, mineral imbalances, gut infections, hormone imbalances, toxic overload, metabolic syndrome, nutrient deficiencies etc.

Synthetic hormones also shut off your natural hormones & disrupt biological processes in the body which depend on the natural rhythm of your estradiol & progesterone.

⚡️Newsflash, hormones aren’t just *optional*. Our body needs them to thrive.

Here are just a few of the reasons why I don’t recommend relying on hormonal birth control (HBC) to fix your hormonal symptoms, like acne, cramping, heavy bleeding, headaches, and more:

❌ HBC robs your body of nutrients by blocking your body’s ability to absorb them (b vitamins, selenium, zinc, magnesium, etc). These nutrient deficiencies can cause further symptoms, such as chronic fatigue, migraines, and much more.

❌ HBC impacts s*x hormones & often permanently- SHBG (s*x hormone binding globulin) regulates how much active hormones are found in our blood and HBC has been found to elevate SHBG, sometimes permanently. The higher the levels of SHBG, the fewer free hormones we have to use, leading to fatigue, low libido, vaginal dryness, brain fog, anxiety & more.

❌ HBC harms gut health by causing imbalances in the bacteria making up your micribiome, creating the perfect storm for overgrowth, pathogens, parasites, and yeast. As a result, you’re left with: weight gain or loss, IBS, bloating, increased food sensitivities, and all other types of digestive disorders.

❌ Synthetic hormones impact mental health & have been shown to increase the risk of anxiety & depression.

Too many women are told their labs are “normal” when they are indeed not. They are then referred to a fertility clinic for procedures not even needed, like IUI & IVF.

✋Before rushing to the fertility clinic, make sure you’re getting the correct labs & using functional ranges.

Patterns I often see holding back my clients from getting pregnant are nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, insulin resistance, iron overload, low thyroid , & Hashimotos. Once we resolve these they get pregnant naturally.

It’s not magic it’s just restorative reproductive medicine. Imagine that.

to me

I was put on the pill just shy of 15 to “treat” painful periods & ovarian cysts. I suffered for years from negative side effects.

After a decade of being on it, I got off & it took me a year to ovulate again.

I then had large ovarian cysts, one of which almost cost me my life after it ripped off a piece of my o***y & I almost hemorrhaged to death while backpacking in Thailand. Luckily the doctors saved my life & o***y.

When I sought advice from my local OB when I returned home to the US, he told me my only option was to take the birth control pill. When I asked for other options he said I didn’t have any.

I knew deep down in my bones there had to be a better way.

And I was right.

After supporting my body with the right diet, lifestyle, & addressing imbalances discovered with the right functional labs, I’ve been birth control free for almost 15 years & THRIVING.

I no longer get ovarian cysts, my ovulatory cycles are like clockwork, & I even conceived a baby boy naturally at 37 (something my doctors told me growing up would most likely be impossible for me!).

Please know that you’re more than just a birth control prescription.

👋🏼 Comment THRIVE below & I’ll DM you the link to watch my free masterclass The Period Fix, so you can learn how to balance your hormones & regulate your menstrual cycles without the pill.

This is 40!

As I recap the year a few things come to mind that I’ve learned.

1. It’s not that you win some lose some.

It’s that God sometimes answers your prayers by giving you what you ask for, and other times he answers your prayers by not giving it to you and/or giving you something better.

2. Motherhood is the greatest gift and parenting is the biggest teacher. And it’s simultaneously the sweetest thing and hardest thing in the world.

My 30s were bittersweet. I traveled the world living abroad for the first 3 years of it, I was widowed, lived in Italy, became a mom to the best boy in the world, and met my now husband who is the most incredible partner & father.

I’m SO ready for what this new decade brings. ❤️

It’s that god sometimes answers your prayers for giving you what you ask for, and other times he answers your prayers by giving you something different.

Real talk. Most people stress out WAY too much about what they eat during the holidays, when in fact, it’s more important what you eat the rest of the year!

Eating extra sweets and drinking a bit more bubbly for a few weeks over the holidays is not going to make you fat and sick, just like eating one salad isn’t going to make you fit and healthy and give you healthy hormones and periods.

This whole healthy living thing is a lifestyle, not a quick fix diet fad. So while you’re enjoying your travels and holidays, I recommend grounding yourself with your baseline routines that keep you resilient and healthy.

Most of these have to do with keeping blood sugar balanced, and our circadian rhythm balanced (wake, sleep cycle).

🔥Here are non-negotiable daily routines that never leave my side, no matter what day it is.

1. Start my day with 20 ounces of warm lemon water, with 1/4 tsp of sea salt, and half a lemon. This hydrates me first thing in the AM and helps balance my minerals for healthy energy and blood sugar balance throuhgout the day. The lemon also stimulates the liver and helps with bile flow, which will assist with detox and digestion.

2. Magnesium- I take this in the morning and the evening as it improves insulin sensitivity, is a co-factor in detoxification (especially estrogen detoxification!), it helps regulate digestion (hi healthy poops!), improves sleep, and reduces anxiety (like from that extra anxiety from your fav aunt’s annoying questions).

3. Daily walks- taking a walk within the first 2 hours of waking will help stimulate cortisol production for energy through the day, and increase melatonin production at night for good sleep. Walking also serves as a glucose disposal agent, which makes walking after meals an excellent tool to balance blood sugar after eating!

Happy Holidays everyone!🎄
