Reframing the Parent-Child Dynamic: The Power of Partnership 🧠

New research highlights that the key to interrupting difficult parenting cycles is increasing a parent's "reflective functioning." At Authentically Ashley Counseling, my approach is two-fold:

1️⃣ Filial Therapy: Training parents to facilitate therapeutic play, strengthening the attachment bond directly.

2️⃣ Monthly Parent Consultations: A dedicated space for us to collaborate, refine skills, and address the intergenerational influences that impact modern parenting.(Covered by your insurance)

This collaborative model ensures that the work we do in the playroom translates to lasting change at home.

I am currently accepting new families! ✨ Visit the Headway link in my bio to schedule a free consultation.

There's no rule book for parenting. Trying to break destructive cycles often leads to repetition of old patterns. What are flexible ways to get there while the kids are still home?

Your brain isn’t "broken"—it’s built for different things! 🚀🧠

The science is clear: ADHD brains are wired differently, especially when it comes to dopamine and connectivity. But at Authentically Ashley Counseling, we don’t just look at the challenges; we celebrate the strengths that come with that unique wiring.

From high-octane creativity and "hyper-focus" superpowers to out-of-the-box problem solving, your neurodivergent brain has an incredible capacity for innovation. My goal is to help you (or your child) harness those natural strengths rather than just trying to fit into a neurotypical box.

New openings are available now! Let’s start focusing on what your brain can do.

For children, rocks can be spaceships. Pens can be fairies. And this kind of play can help protect mental health in childhood, according to new research.

ADHD overthinking isn't just "worrying"—it’s a physiological loop. When your brain lacks the "brakes" to stop a negative thought, you have to create a manual circuit breaker. ⚡️

The ADHD brain worries too much about “what ifs” and “could bes.” You need strategies to calm your anxiety, reset your compass, and get back to sleep at night.

I specialize in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) because it empowers children to process their world through their natural language: play.

I believe therapy is a team effort, which is why my practice focuses on supporting you, too:

✨ Weekly Parent Forms: I send these out so you can privately share celebrations or concerns from the week without having to discuss them in front of your child.

✨ End-of-Session Wrap-ups: We spend time at the end of each session to share "wins" and explain specific strategies you can implement at home.

✨ Monthly Parent Consultations: We’ll meet regularly to dive deep into progress, recurring themes, and your family's specific goals.
You don't have to navigate these years alone. Let’s work together to help your child thrive!

Parents—have you ever felt like the mom in this post? 🤍

It can be exhausting and confusing when you aren't sure if your child is just "being a toddler" or if there is something deeper going on, like ADHD. This helpful article from ADDitude Magazine dives into the complexities of diagnosing ADHD in early childhood: https://www.additudemag.com/diagnosing-adhd-toddlers/

Regardless of a diagnosis, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, just know I’m here to support both you and your little ones.

Many clinicians insist that ADHD evaluations are worthless before age 5 or 6. But I knew something was wrong with my 3-year-old. Deep in my bones and my heart, I knew. So I began fighting early and often until my daughter finally got the evaluation she deserved. And, no, age 3 was not too early. It....

Is it really about the socks? 🧦

We’ve all been there: a small frustration turns into a blowout argument. But usually, the "thing" isn't the real thing.

In this insightful article, "Transform Your Arguments Into Conversations", Pia Owens explains that turning a fight into a connection starts with a simple pause.

Before you react, ask yourself:

1️⃣ What is my goal? (Do you want a clean floor, or do you want to feel seen?)

2️⃣ What is the underlying need? (Is it a desire for respect or shared responsibility?)

3️⃣ Ask for help, don't point fingers. Shift from "You never..." to "I feel overwhelmed when..."

Transforming conflict into connection is a skill that can be learned.

Read the full strategy here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/getting-comfortable-with-conflict/202604/transform-your-arguments-into-conversations

“You never pick up your socks!” Instead of starting a fight that drives you apart, start a conversation that helps you connect.
