Autumn is a time of transition, and acupuncture can help the body adapt smoothly.
🍂 Fall in Traditional Chinese Medicine:
The Metal Element Season
In TCM’s Five Element theory, autumn corresponds to the Metal element, which governs the Lungs (Fei) and Large Intestine (Da Chang) meridians.
These organs are responsible for:
Taking in pure Qi (through breath and nourishment)
Letting go of waste — physically and emotionally
🍁 Common Fall Imbalances
As the air becomes cooler and drier, you might notice:
Dry skin, throat, or cough
Nasal congestion or seasonal allergies
Sadness, grief, or emotional heaviness (the Lung’s emotion)
Fatigue or weakened immunity
Digestive sluggishness or constipation
🪡 How Acupuncture Helps in Fall
Acupuncture supports balance by:
Boosting Lung Qi – strengthens immunity and respiratory function
Moistening dryness – nourishes Yin to prevent dry skin and coughs
Regulating emotions – helps release grief or sadness associated with fall
Supporting digestion and elimination – assists the Large Intestine’s role in “letting go”
Strengthening Wei Qi (defensive energy) – the body’s energetic shield against colds and flu
🫖 Complementary Fall Self-Care
Eat warming, moistening foods: Pumpkin, pears, sweet potatoes, daikon radish, honey, sesame, and ginger.
Stay hydrated — warm teas with honey or chrysanthemum are lovely.
Practice deep breathing — supports the Lung meridian.
Let go emotionally — journaling, meditation, or simply clearing your space aligns with the season’s energy.
