Houston-Larry Brock Nelson, 78, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born July 5, 1947, in Prairie, MS, to the late Elton Leon Nelson and Mary Evelyn Gillespie Nelson.

Larry is leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family. A man of great character, Larry loved the Lord deeply and lived his life guided by that faith. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who cherished his family and took great pride in each generation that followed him. Larry was known for his strong work ethic. He believed in hard work and expected the same from those around him, not out of harshness, but out of a desire to see others grow, succeed and stand on their own. His drive and initiative was the force that led to a partnership that became known as N&W Farms in Vardaman, MS where the brand of Hillbilly Sweet Potatoes was born. With love for the business he created not just a livelihood but a legacy. Even in retirement he found a way to use his hands whether it be with cattle, goats or bailing hay.

Larry met the love of his life when he was just 18 years old, a meeting that would shape the rest of his journey here on earth. They would have been married 60 years on April 25. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith and purpose. When illness came last year, together they faced it with the same strength that defined his life and could only be described as a gift, God granted him one more year. One more year to be with those he loved and share moments and stories that will be treasured forever. He will be deeply missed and remembered always.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at New Liberty Baptist Church in Vardaman with Bro. Pete Gregory and Bro. Jeff Harmon officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Vardaman. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette Blue Nelson of Houston; his children; Debbie Gibson (Al) of Brandon, Damon Nelson (Tania) of Vardaman, Fandaci Harmon (Andy) of Houston; nine grandchildren, Savannah Lenheart, Derek Nelson, Brennon Gibson (McKenna), Kelsey Floyd (Justin), Caitlin Sullivan (Brent), Palmer Harmon (Chelsea), Addison Love (Adam), John Robert Harmon, Lexi Jones (Idarias); 22 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, David Nelson (Margaret) of Woodland; two sisters, Jeannie Winter of Vardaman and Kathy Haynes (Greg) of Houlka.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents-Cyrus and Minnie Nelson, and Fonzo and Margaret Gillespie.

Pallbearers will be Chris Tedder, Derek Nelson, Palmer Harmon, Brent Sullivan, Damon Nelson, Adam Wright and Brennon Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be Randle Wright, Bryan Allen Long, Bub Long, Danny Suggs, J.D. Long, Lee Edward Tedder, Charlie Foster, Adam Love and Justin Floyd.
