We love to see our caregivers take the initiative to improve the lives of their clients and take care of their fellow colleagues as well. Today, Mrs. Adrienne sent us a detailed, step-by-step instruction sheet to help fill-in caregivers be better prepared to provide excellent care to the client.
When asked why she did it, she said, “I think it’s important to have this for each client so that whenever there is some sort of gap in workers, the next one to come along can familiarize themselves with the standard of doing things, versus the client trying to restructure their day-to-day around the new worker, especially when dealing with someone who has dementia.” You are a caring, kind, and loving rockstar, Adrienne.

Those are some really great tips for keeping up with home maintenance, especially as we age or experience physical limitations. If you’re helping someone, or even yourself, it’s important to make the tasks feel more manageable. Here are a couple of additional thoughts that might complement what you’ve already listed:

🔹Install grab bars and handrails:
In high-risk areas like bathrooms and stairs, these can prevent falls and make movement around the house safer, especially if mobility is an issue.

🔹Use automatic devices:
Consider things like smart lights, smart thermostats, or voice-activated assistants (like Alexa or Google Home) to help with daily tasks, so there’s less need to move around for basic functions.

🔹Regular maintenance checks:
Consider a yearly inspection of your home’s systems—plumbing, electrical, roof, etc.—to catch problems early, before they require expensive repairs. This can be especially important if you’re not able to do the checks yourself.
