The Women’s Home was recently welcomed to accept a generous contribution from the Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church towards our Residential Treatment Program. This means the world to us and our clients- please read below a poem written by Emerson UUC member Pat Smith.

Helping Home

Epiphany from Bethany! So much there is to know.
The Women’s Home. You’re not alone.
A place to heal when you are low.

You can get help when harm’s been dealt.
The process will be slow.
It will take time to yourself find.
And work to dodge another blow.

You’re not alone, your skills to hone.
Support you’ll have from all.
And others like you have needs, too.
New found friends to help when you fall.

And it matters that you gather.
With others struggling, too.
Strength in groups, being in the loop.
Talking things out to help your mood.

And you will see others succeed.
Proving that you can too!
It’s hard work that you will not shirk.
Because you can make yourself good.

The Women’s Home could not do what we do without our incredible supporters. This year at our annual luncheon, we had the chance to honor heroes in our community!

Ashley Brown Ruiz and The Daring Way recieved the Champion of The Women’s Home award. As a part of her role as Senior Director of The Daring Way, she leads The Daring Way Internship Program with students seeking a master’s degree in social work. Ashley works with interns to run therapy groups at different agencies around the Houston area, including The Women’s Home.

Duke Ensell was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Duke first learned about The Women’s Home in 2010, and has been a consistent supporter ever since! Duke and his wife C.C. continue to work hard supporting numerous charities, arts organizations, and sit on several boards. He especially enjoys directly helping strangers in need and making a difference wherever he can.

In addition to these two incredible individuals, we would like to highlight our Event Chairs, Bas and Courtney Solleveld, our emcee, Katherine Whaley, and our client speaker, Patti Suler, for making this day great!
