Weston’s Way A glimpse into the life of a heart warrior with Williams Syndrome

03/04/2026

3/4 UPDATE 💙

We traded city traffic noises and loud neighbors for birds chirping and a cool breeze this morning 🥰

After 92 of the worst days of our lives, Weston Thomas finally decided it was time to come back to Alabama.
He is stable.
He is thriving.
He is not sleeping 😵‍💫
But we are finding our new “normal”.

Right now we are attempting to find some type of routine, making schedule and home life adjustments, unpacking and enjoying having our baby boy home.
We please ask for no visitors until we announce we are ready. But your love and prayers have gotten us this far, we know they will keep us going 🫶🏼

God is good all the time 🙌🏼

PRAISE REPORT 2/27 💙

Today’s follow up appointment truly couldn’t have gone better! One of the best parts- he slept through the entire thing 🙌🏼
This wild boy, who goes 0-100 in the blink of an eye, slept through an echocardiogram, ekg, chest xray and a 2 hour appointment.

The 👏🏼 Lord 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 gooooooood👏🏼

The cardiologist said his echo looked good- we know he still has a residual VSD but right now there are zero complications from it and will continue to monitor. His surgical scar looks beautiful! They did see on his xray that one of the wires holding his breast bone together had fractured but they said that’s common when babies are growing.

Speaking of growing- the 7lb 11oz baby boy we took to the ER on December 8th, is now 12lbs 2oz 🎉 no more fortified fomula!

Then his chest Xray looked the best it’s been since we got to Texas. He still has congenital lobar emphysema but it does not appear any worse than after surgery- we will count this as a win!

His arrhythmia is still noticeable but his team feels like his growth is the reason. His medication was increased to a bigger dose for a bigger boy! Another win!

For now, we will be following up with UAB once we are officially released 🫶🏼
ONE. STEP. CLOSER. 🏡

Thank you all for your continued prayers, our boy is doing so well because God was in control and our prayer warriors never gave up. We love you all so very much!

2/27 UPDATE 💙

Today is a big day for our little guy! We are going for his first Williams Clinic cardiac follow up 🎉

This will be a very long appointment- with EKG, echo, xray and labs + a long discussion with our genetic counselor.

Weston has been doing so good outside of the hospital! With the exception of his wild sleep and eating schedules 😵‍💫

We ask that you please say a prayer for excellent news and normal results for our little heart warrior today. I will update again this afternoon 🫶🏼

2/23 UPDATE 💙

Is this what it’s like to have a newborn? One that can breathe and eat and play? One that wants a bottle every 45 minutes and sleep in 20 minute stretches? 🫠

This is the best type of tough. Waking up with a drowsy, smiley boy, playing with a curious little man and getting bullied for bottles.

Weston is growing fast! It took 5 months to fit into his 0-3 Month clothes but he may not for long! The boy who started at 7lb 11oz is now right at 12lbs! He loves to play with a stuffed cow that hangs on his playgym, watching the ceiling fan and lights, still hates doing tummy time and having his diaper changed.

Thank GOD for Kissie and LeeLee because Weston requires all 3 of his maids doing everything at all times 😅

2/19 PRAISE UPDATE 💙

Weston has escaped the hospital! 🎉🙌🏼🥹❤️‍🩹

Yesterday during rounds his entire team gave him the all clear to discharge to our apartment here in Houston! We will still be here for a couple more weeks for follow- ups, therapies and making sure we are set up to go HOME.

It feels so strange to have a baby in the house again- running the show! Our first night was definitely an adjustment, and I couldn’t be more thankful to have my momma and mother in law here with me. They have been lifesavers and Weston absolutely adores them.

We have been SO incredibly blessed. With Weston, with support and love and prayers. With God walking with us through every trial. And now our part of the work begins.
Please pray that our transitions go smoothly! We can’t wait to be home so Weston can meet all of his prayer warriors 🫶🏼

God is good, all the time.

PRAYER REQUEST 💙

We are hoping to get released soon- this doesn’t mean getting to come home, but out of the hospital at least.
❤️‍🩹Weston is officially off morphine, please pray that God will give his little body rest and not fight through withdrawal. It’s so hard to watch him suffer and I can’t imagine how he feels through it.
❤️‍🩹Please pray that he can start sleeping longer periods at night and for naps during the day. He is so exhausted from hunger, weaning, beeps and someone always needing to examine him.
❤️‍🩹Please pray that his heart rhythm stays steady through the physical healing from surgery and he doesn’t have to be on meds longer than necessary.
❤️‍🩹Please pray, that when we do get released, we have peace, answers and strength. Being in the hospital is nerve wracking, taking home your first baby after spending 3 of 5 months inpatient, on medications, therapies, post open heart, with lung issues, is terrifying.

I know God says to have no fear or anxiety because He will take care of us, and even though I know it’s true, it’s hard to not want some type of control. God has gotten us through the scariest, hardest, trying time in our lives and I know with prayer He will continue to walk beside us as we go .

We love you all and can’t thank you enough for continuing to pray for our family and most importantly, Weston Thomas 🫶🏼

No update today except that a 4 month sleep regression + cluster feeding in the hospital is tough 😴

I still can’t be upset when this is the sweetest face face I wake up to!

2/15 UPDATE 💙

Weston and I had the best day together this week! He slept, ate and played like a typical 4month old baby and my heart felt like it could explode!

He is almost done with his morphine wean, but we are taking it slowly since he’s very sensitive to the changes. And the doctors said “that’s really the only reason we still have you here” 🙌🏼
The other night he did have an episode where his heart went back into atrial tachycardia with PACs but they believe it’s from the heart healing and his growth. So they adjusted his beta- blocker and put him on a holter monitor. So far so good!

If Weston keeps his weight going up, his EKGs continue to be stable and he comes off morphine well, we may be getting closer to discharge! I have to admit that’s terrifying and exciting at the same time. I’ll never stop worrying about my boy, but it’s time to figure out what life with a healthy baby is like AT HOME 🫶🏼

Please keep us in your prayers as we navigate these next steps!
-pray that Weston tolerates the end of his medication wean without suffering side effects
- pray that his heart finally settles back into its normal rhythm
- pray that we get get the all dealt for discharge when Weston’s body is ready

We love you all so much!

2/11 UPDATE 💙

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”
Nahum 1:7

Weston had his lung scan yesterday, and he is considered safe enough to “watch and wait”! This means no lung surgery right now!

This isn’t a forever deal, eventually something will have to be done. Lobar Emphysema doesn’t go away, it can’t be reversed, one day he will most likely need a partial lobectomy- but that is a problem for another time.

For now we can focus on healing from open heart, continue weaning meds, gaining weight and being a typical four month old. We still don’t have a timeline for coming home even after discharge we will be in Texas a bit. But today we are one step closer than we were yesterday 🫶🏼

Thank you for all the prayers and messages! Weston Thomas is so strong and his army of prayer warriors is even stronger. ❤️‍🩹

2/10 UPDATE 💙

I had no intention of leaving you all hanging. But the doctors have left us hanging… Weston dint get his scan yesterday, it got rescheduled for today at 1pm. It’s 2:25 right now and nobody has shown up to take him.
We even gave him an extra dose of medicine to make him drowsy so the scan would go easier. And now it’s starting to wear off. They’ll want to give him another dose I’m sure but that’s not fair to him. He shouldn’t have to be unnecessarily medicated when they can’t honor appointments.

He was up every. single. hour. last night. He’s cluster feeding so we are both exhausted and irritable. He’s withdrawing from the last medication he needs to come off of so he’s angry. It’s just exhausting and frustrating.
If you’re still hanging on with us, please pray for the test to be completed today- no extra meds, remove his PICC line and take next steps 🙏🏼

❤️‍🩹 Prayer warriors I have a request tonight for specific prayers. As you all know Weston’s heart was repaired, but his lungs have continued to cause issues. On Monday he will have a V/Q scan (ventilation- perfusion scan) that will determine treatment options for the lobar emphysema that he has. The test looks for where air and blood go into the lungs and whether oxygen is actually exchanged.

If some oxygen is exchanged the doctors may choose to watch it closely over the coming months to make sure he doesn’t need oxygen at home or new medications. If the oxygen has little to no exchange it can hurt the good parts of his lungs and they will need to surgically remove the bad parts of his lungs.

Weston has been through so much.
🙏🏼Please pray that the test gives his team the answers they need.
🙏🏼Please pray that the medical team makes the best decision for Weston- no matter what that may be.
🙏🏼Please pray that whatever the outcome God continues to give Weston and our family peace and trust.

God already knows the outcome- we just ask for prayers of guidance.

Xo, Weston’s Mom
