It's ALS Awareness Month!

"People living with ALS are still individuals with feelings, hopes and dreams. While the disease may cause progressive muscle weakness as it affects motor neurons, making it harder to move, speak or perform everyday tasks, their sense of self remains. People living with ALS remain deeply aware of the world around them. They are still capable of enjoying jokes, laughing, watching good movies, crying or scrolling like most of us (although they use different technology to get there). They have great stories to share as well."
- Jarrod DePriest, our CEO

"We get to see these kids made so much progress… you know they're going to be able to live as much of an independent life as possible. It's one of the most rewarding things ever."

This is Leo. πŸ’™
Leo was born at 33 weeks in a traumatic birth. The doctors didn't think he was going to make it.
Leo's parents knew that they'd need nurses to help with Leo's care, and that's where we came in.

Over the past three years, Maxim nurses have provided care, compassion, advocacy, and consistency into Leo's home, helping his family navigate each step forward.

Now? Leo is learning how to walk.
"Our goal is to see him walk into kindergarten." says his mom.

We're celebrating Nurses Week by sharing Leo's story: https://www.maximhealthcare.com/healthcare-blog/nurses-week-2026-leos-journey-home/
