Good afternoon PEAK followers! 👋
We hope you are having a great weekend!
Today, we will be discussing the importance of proper nutrition🥦. As we age, we are at greater risk for chronic disease - as well as other conditions that decrease bone and muscle mass. It’s never too late to make improvements to aid in healthy aging, and proper nutrition is a good place to start! 🥕🍅🌽🍓🍒
Important notes about nutrition—>
Protein- It is extremely important to consume enough protein everyday, to help prevent the loss of lean muscle mass. Some examples of protein are: Meat, poultry, fish, beans, lentils, ect. 🍔🍗🥩🍖🍣🐠🍤🫘
Vitamins and minerals- Older adults do not absorb certain vitamins and minerals the way younger adults can. Certain medications also hinder the absorption of certain vitamins as well. Be on the look-out for foods that include reinforced vitamins and minerals in their ingredients. 💊💊💊
Fluids- Drinking plenty of fluids helps aid digestion and boosts energy, while avoiding dehydration. Low calorie juices and sodas are great options for fluids, but water remains the #1 beverage to increase hydration. For those who choose to enjoy an alcoholic beverage, moderation is key! ☕️🥤🥛🧃🫖🧊& 1🍷
Have Fun- Try new recipes, eat the rainbow, make a meal with a caregiver and have fun!👯♀️
