This is the incredible true story of a drug-endangered child with the worst start in life... and how the right support turned it all around.

It is NEVER too late to intervene in the life of a child – they are not a lost cause! Appropriate intervention and consistent support from caring adults changed the trajectory of his life and his children’s lives.

Drug endangered children include children affected by a parent/caregivers use of any substance, which includes alcohol. We have a fantastic community and are supportive of our children, but children can still slip through cracks if we aren't better aware of those children who are at risk.

If you are interested in learning to increase your awareness, please let us know. Call us at 785-675-2101 or send us a message.

We will launch our Diabetes Prevention Program on Tuesday, July 29th, at 10am at the health department. If you are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes and want to join the class to learn sustainable lifestyle changes to help prevent this debilitating disease, there is still time. Call 785-675-2101 (you can always leave a voicemail) or message us on FB to sign up, ask question, or get more information.

Since the DPP program is run nation-wide, here's a testimony from a participant, Jan Booker, 60.
As a medical librarian in a hospital, I knew I needed to make changes to my lifestyle to stay out of the hospital as a patient—but I had a hard time actually doing it. Then I found the lifestyle change program. I was motivated to join the program to make sure I could play with my grandchildren for many years to come. I enjoy the program because I have met many people who also struggle with diet and exercise. We share healthy recipes and motivate each other to exercise. I now read food labels and ride a stationary bike for an hour a day. I am looking forward to a long, healthy life with my children and grandchildren.

July (or any summer month) can be HOT! Remember to keep your baby at a comfortable temperature when practicing safe sleep. For every sleep, including naps throughout the day, babies should be sleeping alone, on their backs, in a clutter-free, firm, flat surface.

Our county fair starts next week and many people are busy with preparations. Take time amidst of the chaos to downshift. Stress is one of the leading causes of chronic inflammation. It also has direct links to major age-related health issues, including Alzheimer’s disease. Unlike most of the modern world who prefer to shed stress at the gym or the mall, let's practice more traditional down-to-earth practices to recharge.

Learn even more about the daily downshift routines practiced by Okinawans, Adventists, Ikarians, Sardinians, and Nicoyans: https://www.bluezones.com/2022/02/13-unusual-ways-to-shed-stress-lessons-from-the-worlds-blue-zones/?fbclid=IwY2xjawLeTLFleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF5UWphOENoQmxFOFl5UUt0AR69F0ETu53u2eWiva2OX_3xAid62_11wK9CKXeiS_8cx3DkFD0UFn_OThAOlA_aem_o-huG0sNixu3IvbhmqRung

The Count the Kicks app acts as an early warning system. It helps parents get to know their baby’s normal movement pattern so they will be able to quickly see if their baby’s normal has changed. With that information in hand, they will have the peace of mind to know when to contact their provider with a concern.

Don’t delay! Remind each of your patients to download the Count the Kicks app today!

https://countthekicks.org/download-app/

The FREE Count the Kicks app offers an easy way for expectant parents to monitor their baby’s movements in the third trimester of pregnancy. It also teaches expectant parents to pay attention to the strength of their baby's movements. The app is available in 20+ languages, and has been downloaded 600,000 times and counting. We have app users in all 50 states and more than 140 countries.

After a few sessions on the free Count the Kicks app, parents will start to notice an average amount of time it takes their baby to get to 10 movements. App users are also able to rate the strength of their baby's movements on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being "fluttery" and 5 being "fierce."

We recommend talking to expectant parents about the importance of fetal movement and the app at their glucose screening appointment and at every appointment in the third trimester. Now is a great time for expectant parents to use all the features of the free Count the Kicks app, including the ability to send baby's movement session history directly to their provider via text or email.
