MSU Extension Cow-Calf Seminar: A free seminar on how to have a more productive beef herd is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 5, 2019 at Alpena Community College.
The seminar for beef cow-calf producers will focus on how factors on both the bull and cow side can impact the success rate of getting cows pregnant.
Producers will hear from Lowell Midla, veterinarian at Merck Animal Health, and will be able to better understand the timing of vaccination to protect animal health and not interfere with embryo survival. Producers will also learn about body condition scoring of cows and be able to relate that to opportunity for conception.
Phil Durst with MSU Extension will speak about the economics of open cows and present a time-frame for pregnancy diagnosis that will enable producers to market open animals at higher prices.
Karen Solo of Northern Ag Diagnostics will tell producers about pregnancy diagnosis of cows through use of a blood sample.
The meeting will be held in Room 106 of the Center Building at ACC. Reservations are encouraged and can be made by emailing Phil Durst at durstp@msu.edu or by calling the MSU Extension office in Ogemaw County at 989-345-0692
