At HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital, we believe in celebrating the people who make a difference — especially when that recognition comes directly from their peers.
Each month, our PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit) teams nominate one of their own for the Unit Team Member of the Month award. This honor is especially meaningful because it’s chosen by fellow team members, not leadership — a true reflection of respect and appreciation among colleagues.

We are proud to recognize:
🏅 PCU Honorees: Cheri Fields & Emily Proffitt-Frekey
🏅 MICU Honorees: Alexis Ferrer & Isabella Shields

These outstanding caregivers were nominated for their teamwork, empathy, and dedication to providing exceptional patient care. Their dedication, compassion, and teamwork make a real difference every day -- and we're so proud to have them as part of our HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital family. 💙

October is National Physical Therapy Month - and we have two words for you - Mobility Matters!
At HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital, our Physical Therapy Department has completed over 27,000 visits this year alone - helping patients regain strength, independence, and quality of life.

Why does mobility matter?

Even just 3 days of bed rest can lead to muscle loss, increased risk of infection, and longer hospital stays — especially for older adults. Our PT team works to keep patients moving, prevent complications, and promote faster recovery.
Whether it’s walking with therapy, eating lunch in a chair, or brushing teeth while standing — every movement counts.

Our team wants to share some important information with you! Check out the flyer below to learn how mobility matters and how even small movements during a hospital stay can prevent serious complications. Share it with your loved ones.

Let’s keep our community strong, one step at a time.

Since launching our Stroke Program in 2019, this team at HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital has performed over 700 stroke thrombectomies — a life-saving procedure that removes clots from the brain’s blood vessels during an acute stroke.

Why does this matter?

Every minute after a stroke, 1.9 million neurons die. Without treatment, patients can suffer permanent physical or cognitive disabilities. But with timely thrombectomy, blood flow is restored — a process called reperfusion — and the chance for full recovery dramatically improves.
Our team is proud to offer this advanced care to our community, working with speed, precision, and compassion.

HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital recently received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. Tomorrow marks 24 years since 9/11 — a day our nation will never forget. For Dr. Stephanie Reynolds, a physician at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, the memories are deeply personal.

On that morning, she was an emergency room doctor in Queens, New York. Her husband, an NYPD officer, kissed her goodbye and said, “I don’t know if I’ll see you again,” before heading into the city as the second plane hit.

Thankfully, he made it home safely. In the days that followed, Dr. Reynolds did what she still does today — cared for patients with compassion, comforted grieving families and stood strong in the face of unimaginable loss.

This Sept. 11, Dr. Reynolds and her husband will return to New York to honor the officers in his unit who never came home.

Her story is one of courage, compassion and resilience. Watch the full feature from FOX 13 News - Tampa Bay: https://bit.ly/4mXnlAL

Patient safety remains a top priority at HCA Florida Healthcare and across HCA Healthcare’s integrated network of care. As a part of this commitment, HCA Healthcare established our own Patient Safety Organization (PSO) in 2014 to build systems, refine processes and enhance safety.

In our ongoing efforts to improve safe patient care, our PSO regularly refines processes and implements new safety measures. Our dedicated care teams work together each day to foster a safe environment for both our patients and our colleagues. Earlier this year, 49 HCA Healthcare hospitals were recognized on the 2025 Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals list for being within the top 5% of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence.
